CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: We had impeccable spring weather this easter morning, the sun was shining bright, the sea was near flat and an eastern breeze pushed us out into the bay. After some searching about we spotted our first minke whale! This animal disappeared rather quickly though, but this was no problem as closeby we spotted dozens of northern gannets plunge diving! as we got closer, we spotted a second minke feeding. We had an incredible encounter with this individual as it surfaced very often, at one point so close to the boat we could see the entire body through the surface of the water! Eventually, we gave this animal its well deserved rest and we then spotted 2 small pods of white beaked dolphins in the distance happily jumping about, while a third minke appeared very shortly nearby as well! As we started running out of time, we had to start heading towards land again. But as we got close to port, we suddenly found a humpback whale (which, on later inspection of the photos, turned out to be an individual we call Bubbles)! After a short but sweet interaction with two very nice fluke dives, we had to go and wrap up our morning tour but what an easter treat it was!

Report from Eldey: What an amazing tour it was! We continued with with the sunshine on our faces during the whole day. Our first stop was close to Grottar lighthouse, where we had a humpback whale that was swimming in very shallow waters, about 4m deep! All of a sudden, this whale, that we identified as Mr. Bubbles, rolled and started showing its long and white pectoral fins on the surface for a while. How amazing!! Since there were other boats around, we decided to explore other parts of the bay, and it didn't take long until we saw a minke whale passing by. It only came to say hello and bye at the same time, but seconds later a pod of about 25 white-beaked dolphins passed by our boat! They were many and also scattered so we could enjoy them for a long time, looking at them going underneath us. They were continuing their way in the direction of the sun. On the way back, Mr. Bubbles the humpback was even closer to Reykjavik! We saw it for a couple of times before we had to head back home. What a day!
