With the wind and the sea state calming down, it seemed like a nice continuation of today's whale watching. We sailed out about 45 minutes before we saw the first spout. A lone humpback whale was feeding on the surface, going down only for shallow dives. It was a juvenile; one that we have been seeing for the last few days. After spending some time with this busy baleen whale, we went on with the trip. A couple of miles north-west of the position we saw another one, this time an adult. It's diving pattern was a bit to challenging for us, since we have to be back in the harbour at a specific time, so we left it in peace and sought out something else. Soon after we encountered a pair of humpback whales swimming together, both juveniles. It seemed that Faxaflói Bay has been a whale kindergarten today... and we loved every second of it. Time was running short and we had to turn the boat around. On our way home we saw several harbour porpoises and a lone pair of white-beaked dolphins to spice up this wonderful trip.

Report from Eldey: Today is Earth Day so going for whale watching was a perfect way to celebrate. Morning in Reykjavik was beautiful, warm, calm and sunny. But just behind harbour wall cold northern wind was waiting for us. Small waves were rocking our boat to the sides a little bit, but it was still very comfortable to sail. After an hour on the water big blow came out of nowhere. Juvenile humpback whale decide to make us a surprise. Animal was very relaxed and just swimming around, staying close to the surface so we could see almost all the body. Real fun started when rib-boat from Whale Safari joined us. From our, higher perspective, we could see whale going for a dive almost under the rib and playing around it. It was super cool to see how even a young whale is still bigger than not so small rib. Later on we spotted another blow close by so we went to check it. Bigger humpback whale was resting on the surface. When it went for a deep and long dive we decided to came back and take last look and our first whale before heading back.
