  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

Today's whale watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out in search of fun in the bay, with some clouds threatening to create rain. Fortunately, the sun popped out and made the sea very blue and our faces a bit warmer. About 20 minutes into the tour, a few splashes were seen coming from near Grótta, they were from about 15 harbour porpoises, that were on a mission and prepared to attack some fish. Not too far, a few black bodies with fins emerged to breathe. As we got closer, we could be sure that we were in the presence of 5 minke whales! We stayed with these individuals for a while, even seeing some lunges, splashes and some close-ups! we decided to keep going, and head North. This move paid off as we came across a pod of 7 white-beaked dolphins! They were feeding on a bait ball together with some kittiwakes flying on top, catching the fish that dared to come close to the surface. After they were done, one of them decided to greet us with a few jumps near the boat which made the passengers super happy and in awe. We left them to go back to the harbour safe and sound.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The sea had become a fair bit more choppy compared to the morning, and the westerly winds blew in our faces as we sailed out. Nevertheless we were excited to see what we the Faxafloi would have in store for us this afternoon. We were lucky to see 2 pods of white beaked dolphins, each of about 4 dolphins. The first group was clearly having a feeding frenzy as they were circling at the surface while plenty birds were getting their pickings as well. The second pack seemed to be hanging around more calmly and came very close to the boat at one point. So close even we could see them through the watersurface! After this encounter, we started to head back home, now with the winds in our backs.
