Report from Hafsulan: We headed out in beautiful sunshine, with calm conditions making for a pleasant trip on the water. After a long search, our patience was rewarded when we spotted the blow of a humpback whale. The whale was making long dives, most likely feeding, so sightings were brief. Even so, we were lucky enough to catch a few nice glimpses as it surfaced between dives. In the same area, we came across a pod of seven white-beaked dolphins. They were very friendly and curious, approaching the boat several times and coming in nice and close, giving everyone fantastic views and providing a wonderful end to the tour. Although the humpback proved challenging to follow, the combination of a whale sighting and an encounter with such playful dolphins made for a memorable trip out at sea.

Report from Eldey: Around mid-day, the sun was still shining brightly. We were in the best of moods, catching rays on the top deck. Visibility was fantastic too, and we got the full view of all mountains surrounding the bay. We set off roughly towards Snæfellsjökull and enjoyed the sail into the bay. We started spotting some Northern gannets, but it did take us a bit until we found a cetacean. We followed some information far into the bay and after over an hour of driving, it all paid off. We encountered a humpback whale and we were very excited to observe it! The whale was doing very short dives and sometimes very short surface sequences too. We observed it come up for air once and immediately fluke. We got to see it several times, sometimes with a very grand fluke display, sometimes so shallow the fluke was barely lifted. Every time, we were stunned by its beauty. However, after a while it was time to start returning to port. There was a vey short appearance of a small pod of white-beaked dolphins, maybe two animals that were mainly seen by crew members. As we got closer to the coastline, we also saw a bunch of Atlantic puffins taking off for flight, which is always a joy to observe. We had a lovely time at sea!

Report from Eldey: The sun was out again after we missed it for too long. We went out onto the bay on this wonderful day and had to go quite far to find our whale. But the birds, foremost the puffins that were almost everywhere, made us have a lot to see. The young humpback whale that we found, was traveling slowly but showed us its nice fluke as we got closer. we spend some time with him before we had to return back to the harbor.
