CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we had four seasons in a day! On the way out Reykjavik looked a bit gloomy but once we set sail it felt like summer! The wind was coming from behind us and you could not feel it on the way out. After 40min of sailing we spotted one minke whale! This minke came up a few times before venturing on, so we did too. We then quickly spotted some fins on the horizon - 'twas white beaked dolphins! It started out as one pod of 7, then suddenly there was another pod of 6 nd another of 5! The dolphins started with very relaxed behaviour, definitely feeding and not so interested in us. They then all in sync started jumping and doing twists in the air! There was a moment we had three pods all jumping in-front of us! We did try and make a move but the dolphins wanted to play and kept swimming around us closely! We did eventually make a move and then spotted one more minke on the way home.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We once again set sail into Faxaflói bay where we were met with a little bit of sunshine and warm wind to start off with. After a short while of sailing, we spotted our first species: one elusive minke whale! This minke whale was quite quick and we were only able to see it a few times before it disappeared and we moved on to continue our search. Thankfully, our search did not last long as we could see two mystery whales surfacing a few hundred meters in front of us. As we made our way there, we could see that these were 2 humpback whales! When we got closer, both started lunge feeding and one rolled over on its side a few times, giving us a really good look at its white pectoral fins. The second minke whale of the tour had also arrived at this location, and we could watch the whales from almost any direction! The humpbacks continued to lunge feed over and over again, and one of them even came right up to the bow of the boat! After spending some time with the whales, we sadly had to say goodbye to them as we were running out of time and as we began sailing away, we could still see the humpbacks lunge feeding in the distance. At this point, it had started raining so we enjoyed some hot chocolate inside and returned to land feeling ecstatic from this spectacular encounter.
