Tour at 17:00

Given the strong south-westerly winds in the bay, the tour departed from Keflavík this evening. We started out in rather pleasant and calm weather, visiting the bird colony near the harbour of Keflavík and getting a close-up look at the juvenile Kittiwakes that just hatched there. Soon, a pod of white-beaked dolphins surfaced, just a metre next to the boat but then dove away. After that, we didn't have much luck. Although we kept trying and despite promising signs (diving Gannets, fish) we couldn't get hold of another cetacean. Complimentary tickets were issued when we returned to Reykjavík harbour.

Tour at 13:00

The wind had picked up quite a bit since the morning so the sea was pretty rough when we got further away from land. Everybody seemed to be really enjoying the wet rollercoaster ride though and after a while we spotted a big Minke whale. It was probably around 9-10 metres tall and very curious, surfacing almost 3 metres away from the boat, allowing us to admire its mighty blowholes and its pointed snout. We stayed with this amazing Minke for some time until heading back to port. A good tour!

Tour at 09:00

We sailed straight out to Faxaflói bay in a very nice weather with a really good visibility, after a while we spotted few harbour porpoises that were swimming pretty fast next to us, and at the same time we spotted our first minke whale that surfaced few times. Soon we found another one that was much closer, and when we were watching that one another minke whale surfaced suddenly only 10 meters away, amazing. We were looking at, at least 6 minke whales and few harbour porpoises throughout the tour, and a lot of diving gannets around the boat with minke whales next to them surfacing many times. Great tour!
