CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 09:00
Report from Eldey: We went out in sunny weather with quite a breeze from the north. As we made our way out of the harbor the sea was calm and flat but that changed once we made it out from in between the islands. The wind build up quite some white caps and so we had to keep our eyes extra sharp to find the whales. We were lucky to spot a small pod of about 5 harbour porpoises close to our boat. They traveled fast and surfaced with little splashes but we could see them under the waves dur to the sun shining. Not long after that the first of 6 minke whales that we saw throughout the tour surfaced just a few meters in front of our boat. We got a great look the the beautiful gray shading on the animal in the sunlight. We kept searching and came into an area where a lot of Northern gannets were plunge diving for fish. We investigated closer and found a pod of around 8 white-beaked dolphins. They were hard to keep in sight amongst the rough waves out on the bay and so they managed to disappear rather quickly. Nonetheless all together it was as wonderful tour in great weather.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 11:00
Report from Elding: We headed out onto the choppy bay under clear skies and beautiful sunshine. Soon after leaving the harbour, a vigilant passenger spotted our first sighting, a small group of shy harbour porpoises. Quite impressive to spot these tiny cetaceans amidst the waves today! As we continued on, we spotted a sneaky minke whale, giving us a couple glimpses of this elusive species, but our attention was soon drawn to some similar looking dorsal fins belonging to a small pod of 6-7 white-beaked dolphins! Once these curious dolphins were done with their very close inspection of our bow, we continued on into the bay hoping to spot some more cetaceans. We spotted a second minke whale soon after, happy to have a second sighting of this shy species. We then spotted a larger blow not too far, most likely belonging to a humpback whale, but this individual proved to be incredibly shy and elusive, and disappeared after only a couple of glimpses.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: The wind was strong and the waves tall out in the bay today, but the sun was shining brightly on us. To avoid the worst waves our trip took us on the scenic route between Faxafloi's islands and into the picturesque Hvalfjördur. While the sun was out the whales ended up being absent this afternoon and while we managed to enjoy the sun-soaked landscapes we did not get a glimpse of the whales. This left us to hand out complimentary tickets to the passengers on board, giving them a chance to come out on another tour and get a new opportunity to observe the wildlife in their habitat!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 15:00
Report from Elding: The weather during the afternoon continued very similar to the morning: the sea was wavy and windy, but also sunny and warm. As we sailed out, we had a few sightings of minke whales. One minke was followed by a second, then a third and by the end of the tour, we'd probably seen up to 6 or 8 of them. However, our "cherry on top of the cake" moment, was when we arrived to an area where we had multiple sightings of humpback whales. We spent around half an hour with the humpbacks, with some of them approaching less than a hundred meters from us, and a few even demonstrating hunting behaviours, like lunge and bubble-net feeding! After having a nice moment with these wonderful giants, we started our journey back towards the harbour. A tour with challenging conditions, well rewarded with the sight of some very special behaviours!
