CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Hafsulan: We left the harbour this morning under an overcast sky, but the conditions were great: The visibility allowed us to admire Snæfellsjökull and the sea was very calm. We went to the same area than yesterday to try to spot some nice whales. We quickly spotted a few blows from several humpbacks. During the tour we saw 4 humpback whales in total. We picked one and approached it, the animal was feeding, going for deep dives, showing us its light fluke. There was a second one feeding on the same food, with a much darker tail. We stayed there for a while and decided to go further out. After a few minutes we crossed a pod of 6-8 white beaked dolphins. They seemed to be milling, resting and often changing direction. Not really in the mood for whale watching. We continued the tour and saw a pair of humpback whales, resting nearby. We stayed there in silence, enjoying those beautiful and sleepy animals until they went for a dive, showing us there tail. On the way back home we quickly saw the dolphins again that came super close to our boat. The day is starting very well!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 10:OO

Report from Elding : The sky was overcast when we started our way out of the harbour, but the sea was extremely calm, we had a light breeze and a really light swell. We noticed some whale watching boats in the distance so quickly understood there were probably some whales in the area. We quickly encountered our first humpback whale, gliding calmly on the surface of the water and offered us some really nice views on its majestic body, this one is the one known here as Homer Simpson that we had seen last time last year. After some time with that individual we decided to try and see the white beaked dolphins in the area. The dolphins came bow riding at first, but then changed behaviour and as they were going away from the boat we decided to leave the animals. We quickly noticed more blows in the distance, it was 2 humpback whales travelling together really calmly, one individual recognized as Gustav and the other one of unknown ID, Gustav came close to the boat, inquisitive animal, circled us and surfaced right by the bow. It was incredible to have this close look, everyone was amazed. After more minutes of those majestic creatures, it was time to leave the area and come back to Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsulan: What an amazing afternoon trip that we have had. The sailing experience was great, with pretty flat sea and even though it was cloudy the visibility was extraordinary. Our first attraction was our beloved Liney, a humpback whale that lately she has shown us to be very active. Congruently, today we found her lob-tailing!! When we approached to the area where she was, ironically she started swimming very calmly. We continued our tour enjoying a pod of 8-10 harbour porpoises that were swimming in front of our boat for couple minutes and as they stayed close to boat we had a very good look at them. Further away we found another humpback whale. This time this individual was performing very long dives and we decided to continue with another individual that was creating huge splashes at the distance. As we came close the animal started to swim erratically probably looking for food, many artic terns were following so we believe they were taking some advantage of the behavior of the humpback. It was a really beautiful and fun day out on the bay!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 14:00

Report from Elding: Suddenly it had become foggy this afternoon, but thankfully there were so many whales in the area that the decreased visibility was no problem for a successful whale-watching trip. With blows everywhere, it was difficult to choose where to start, but we decided to focus on a humpback whale that was calmly surfacing and sometimes showing us the white fluke, and then all of a sudden did a peduncle throw. It seemed that the many whales in the area were communicating with each other with those loud tail slaps, because a bit further on we also saw the big splashes of another individual. When we came closer, we were happy to recognise this was Homer Simpson, one of our favourite humpback whales who we saw for the first time today after a winter without him/her. Homer Simpson was being very active, frequently peduncle slapping and just when we were about to leave Homer also started pectoral slapping, rolling, and, for the final spectacle, even breached! It was incredible to see the entire body of this beautiful whale so close to our boat, and this was an encounter our passengers and crew will probably not soon forget.
