CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today we had a magnificent sunrise with the whales. We first sailed out on very flat seas, admiring the orange sunlight coming behind the mountains. Then, we spotted not one, but 2 humpback whales, swimming side by side. They treated us with beautiful fluke dives and while they were under the surface, we had fun spotting the many grey seals around us. We counted about 5, very curious and funny! This 2 humpbacks were Banana and its friend, and we watched them a couple of times more before we decided to leave them and try to find something else. We searched around Viðey before heading back to the humpbacks for a second look. This time, Banana and their friend were more actively feeding. A few times at the surface, they were also followed by a hungry grey seal! It was probably catching all the fish that escaped the huge humpback mouths! After that we made our way to the harbour after a wonderful morning at sea.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: on our second tour of the day, the sea conditions were still good, although the wind has peaked up a bit! The sun was shining and even though it was freezing, the mountains were beautiful and we had a lovely afternoon ahead! So it didn't take long until we spotted our first blow: next to the islands, a lone humpback whale that we later identified as Banana, was very actively feeding. And indeed, the amount of flocks of many different species of seabirds in the area was insane! We stayed with Banana for a while until we spotted another blow a bit further away. It was Banana's friend! This one was a bit trickier to track but it popped up very close to us a couple of times! Then, this whale went to the same area Banana was but still keeping a distance. The whales got mixed up and now we were looking at Banana, that did a peduncle throw! Then, after spotting some harbour and grey seals (5-10) we sailed to another area. On the way back, we stopped by to say goodbye to Banana before heading home. Lovely day at sea!
