Tour at 17:00

The wind seemed to have picked up a little but only really noticeable when you headed into it. We headed straight out into Faxaflói for this tour and after sailing offshore for about 20-30 minutes the captain spotted a blow about 50 meters in front of us. We waited for a while for the whale to resurface then suddenly just 10 meters from our boat a Minke Whale surfaced quickly and then travelled just under the water’s surface. You could see the Minke clearing as it rolled and surfed the swells. Absolutely amazing. For the next 20-30 minutes or so we saw a few Minkes surfacing here and there, surfing the swells and loving the rough weather. The behaviors seen from the Minkes Whales today was just amazing, just goes to show you that you shouldn´t be put off by a little rough weather. On the way back to the coast a couple of Harbour Porpoises were seen very briefly but not by everyone. Then the tour ended perfectly at Puffin Island where there were thousands of Puffins. Awesome day.

Again the weather was pretty bad, raining, rough sea  and very windy but that didn´t stop us going out and having a great tour. We started the tour by visiting Akurey and saw thousands of Puffins sitting outside their borrows and swimming on the water surface. We then headed out into Faxaflói Bay. The seabirds were just loving the windy weather, soaring close to the waters surface, Fulmars and Gannets in particular. Other birds seen were Storm Petrels, Kittiwakes, Gulls, Arctic Terns, Guillemots and of course more Puffins. Suddenly the captain alerted us of a Minke Whale spotted quite close to the boat, it was quite hard keeping track of the whale with the large waves but we did get to see a couple of times even though it was travelling further and further away. Then.........OMG, A BREACHING MINKE WHALE. Breached 3 times before disappearing.  Bringing two 3rds of the body right out before hitting the water with a big splash. Amazing that the only time you get to see this behaviour is in rough weather. Such a rare sight to see. Fantastic Tour.

Tour at 09:00 The weather was pretty rough today, strong wind and it was raining cats and dogs. We started the tour at the Puffin island Akurey and again, lots of Puffins. Then out to Faxaflói bay. After sailing for awhile we spotted the first Minke Whale. But the whale was in a bad mood. So we sailed further out and spotted the second Minke Whale. It showed up 70 m. from our boat and surfaced 3 times. Then suddenly a big splash 250 m in front of out boat. Unbelievable, it was a breaching Minke Whale and it breached out of the water five times . We could see the whole body in the air. Five times. What a show. It was quite spectacular to watch this elegant Minke Whale breaching out of the water again and again.
