CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning brought gloomy skies and calm seas. As we were sailing out, we stumbeld upon our first sighting very early on. Just past the island of Akurey, there was a humpback whale feeding! This was Harbour master, a young whale we know quite well. This whale was taking short dives, lifting its beautiful fluke out of the water every time. Farther out in the bay, a second blow of a humpback whale appeared! This one surfaced close to the boat a few times, allowing us to see the pectoral fins trough the surface. If these two whales were not enough, a third humpback whale was spotted going for a dive, but before we reached the area, a pod of white-beaked dolphins showed up! 7 to 10 dolphins were traveling, jumping out of the water and bow riding the waves made by the boats. We realized we were running out of time, so we waved our whales goodbye and made our way back to port in true Icelandic wheater, with rain coming from every direction!

Report from Eldey: We geared up in warm overalls, ready and eager to once again brace the rainy conditions out in Faxaflói bay. To our delight the humpback whale we spotted in the morning, our now well known Harbour Master, was still busy feeding quite close to the shore. We made a stop and were lucky to see some beautiful surfaces and fluke dives. As we headed out further into the bay, more seabirds started to appear. We spotted many Northern fulmars, Northern gannets and juvenile gulls, all seemingly interested in the buffét below. Soon, we were happy to spot another tall blow! It was another humpback whale that was most likely lunge feeding. As we observed the humpback whale, a minke whale also appeared in the area, and we were able to see it surface a couple of more times before it continued on its travels. We shifted our focus back to the humpback whale, and enjoyed some more fluke diving, before it was time to change direction back towards the harbour. By this point, the rain had stopped completely, and we all enjoying the surroundings on the upper deck.
