CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: A beautiful sunny day greeted us on this morning tour, winds were light and the bay was nice and calm. Not long before exiting the harbour we met a small group of about 5 harbour porpoises, they seemed to be following some prey at the surface and actually came pretty close to the boat. As we ventured on, we could see various tall blows in the distance, we picked one and headed towards it. Upon reaching the area we could clearly see this was a humpback whale, quite relaxed, on the surface, doing several fluke dives. More boats started to arrive and we decided to leave the area. Blows continued to appear in the distance, it wasn't long before we had our second humpback whale encounter. This time the individual was diving more frequently and never showing the fluke. Since we could see another blow further away, we decided to move on, towards our third humpback whale sighting. This individual was very relaxed, frequently at the surface, almost motionless. We could see its big white flippers under the surface before it headed down for a dive, showcasing its majestic fluke. It was goodbye from us, however, on our way back we encountered a small pod of White-beaked dolphins, around 5 individuals. These seemed to be chasing something, and frequently leaped out of the water. Unfortunately, we could not stay and had to keep moving towards home. Nevertheless, as we neared the harbour, another blow! Our fourth humpback whale of the tour, or possibly the first individual we saw at the start. The perfect way to finish our safari.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather conditions were truly spoiling us today. Sunny skies and flat seas is not always the case, so we were happy. As we sailed out we were early on accompanied by around 6 harbor porpoises. This sighting was wonderful because they came very close to the boat and you were able to get a proper look at them. They did not seem to travel in a close pod but was instead quite spread out which was interesting. After this interaction we found a big blow in the distance and it turned out to be a humpback whale. It seemed very relaxed and was slowly moving rather close to us. At the same time there was a pod of about 5 white-beaked dolphins that possibly were feeding together with the humpback whale, but then separated. After enjoying this sight for quite some time we continued our journey. It brought us to 3 minke whales. They were separated but still within the same area. One looked very interesting with a unique dorsal fin that resembled the one of a humpback whale, so it confused us a bit. They all gave us nice sightings and came up with their pointy snout. The tour continued in search for something else but at this point it was very quiet, maybe activity move out further in the bay. We had around 5 more harbor porpoises on the way back. What a lovely day out at sea!
