Today's Whale Watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out under overcast skies, the air was crisp and seas calm - perfect conditions for spotting some whales. We bundled up, and were able to see snowcapped mountains and learnt more about some of the famous landmarks. The further away from Reykjavik we ventured, the more seabirds started to appear. This gave us hopeful spirits as they might be feeding on the same buffet as the whales are after. Sure enough! A little minke whale appeared close to us, and we could observe it calmly swimming in a circle just at our front. We stayed with this minke whale for quite some time and watched it come up for a few breaths, then we continued to test our luck further. We were very lucky, because shortly thereafter we came across a pod of 6 white beaked dolphins. These dolphins surfaced beside us many times and we could peacefully watch them travel together, so close we could clearly tell how big this species is. The bay continued to put on its show even as we headed back towards the city - Atlantic puffins, Arctic terns, and even another minke whale! What a beautiful morning.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: With the skies still overcast a little more wind we went out again onto Faxaflói bay. After some searching we got close to a fast and elegant minke whale. We were able to watch a surface sequence very close to the boat but then this fast whale disappeared. We saw a second minke a little further away and went to try to see this individual but it was equally as shy. So we went on and soon spotted the large dorsal fins of a pod of around 5 white-beaked dolphins. They circled our boat and showed us their beautiful colour patterns they are named after. Multiple times, we had this little group right next to and in front of our boat. Maybe they were people watching! After being with them for a while, we unfortunately had to turn back towards the harbour but we were all happy with our close encounters!
