Report from Elding: The afternoon turned out to pleasingly sunny as we began to sail out once more. Our course was none other than to where we have been seeing so many whales in the last weeks. With winds picking up though, also the location from this morning had changed a little. No problem though with the years of experience in spotting we still found an unreal amount of whales on this tour. Again 7 humpback whales all in a similar area, this time more relaxed after having been feeding all morning they were more slow and had time to be curious and check us out veeeeery closely. Circling our boat, one of the humpbacks certainly became everyone’s favourite. But also the minke whales, of which we saw probably 10 different individuals, were absolutely calm and came so so close!!

Report from Elding: These days are just incredible. We went out with fog and at times heavy rain, making the visibility more tricky. But stubborn as we are, and experience having taught us that we can encounter whales in far worse conditions, we sailed out. After just about an hour, we began to encounter minke whales and a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins, all feeding and chasing fish. The longer we stayed in the area, the more whales popped up everywhere! Two humpback whales were tail-slapping and another three, which we spend the most time with, lunge feeding over and over with hundreds of birds going for the fish that the whales were pushing to the surface. It was spectacular. Minke whales were everywhere too! In the end we still can not grasp how many whales we saw, at least 7 humpback whales and a minimum of 30 minke whales. Even a pod of 3 harbour porpoises decided to pop up on our way back, making it a 4 species tour.

Birds seen on today’s tours include: atlantic puffin, arctic tern, common guillemot, razorbill, arctic skua, northern gannet, kittiwake, black-backed gull, northern fulmar, eider duck.
We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 09:00 and 13:00. There is always some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office.
