CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out onto a calm silk sea - with no wind! We were eager to see what the bay had in store for us and we were not disappointed! After a short sail we already spotted two small pods of 2-4 harbour porpoises. As they can be quite elusive and we were still very close to land, we headed further on. Only a few minutes went on and we spotted a minke whale at our 12 and headed towards it! We slowed down as we past, but again were still so close to land that we wanted to get further out and not spend too much time close to land. On our way we spotted another pod of 5 harbour porpoises, who were splashing and swimming quite fast next to us! Not long after that we saw a pod of 8 white beaked dolphins! This pod was a mixed bag of very calmly swimming near us, as well as bow riding and even jumping completely out the water! We stayed with them for quite some time, and then headed on. As we did we saw another (!) pod of 6 dolphins but we also heard a small rumour that there was something larger further out, and they were true as we then spotted a humpback whale! We sadly couldn't stay long with it, as we had travelled far out and there was quite a few boats but did enjoy a few magical moments together before heading back. During the whole tour we also saw at leas 9 more minke whales! And then more pod of 2 harbour porpoises and 5 dolphins on the way back! What a start to the day!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00

Report from Hafsulan: We had an amazing tour today which started and ended fantastically. Although we were accompanied by some light rain, we had great weather the entire trip, with calm seas and good visibility. As a consequence, it didn't take as long until we found our first whale, a humpback whale, which was calmly resting (possibly even sleeping) at the surface. Soon, we notice that a second whale was nearby. It turned out to be a minke whale, which soon approached our boat. And what a spectacular minke whale it was! It was way more curious than what the average minke whale in our tours, and did various spy-hops. We would come across various minke whales throughout our tour, as well as a few harbour porpoises and white-beaked dolphins. We managed to spend some time with the dolphins, watching them socialize with each other, before returning to harbour, after a spectacular experience at sea.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We left the harbour in overcast but calm weather, giving us the perfect conditions to spot cetaceans. Not far from the harbour we spotted our first splash rather close, a harbour porpoise! Generally shy and elusive, this one headed straight towards our boat and gave us quite a close-up look, it was a real treat to see. As we headed out further, we spotted a blow in the distance, the first humpback whale sighting of our tour. It was a very calm individual, resting near the surface, but treating us to a peak of its fluke as it headed for a deeper dive. We continued on, deeper into the bay, and soon spotted splashes on the horizon. It was a pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins! They were jumping and splashing along the surface, seemingly playing or perhaps feasting under the surface. As we came closer they became a lot more calm, allowing us to get good long looks at them. It was then time to head back towards the harbour, were we had another humpback whale sighting (which may have been the same individual we saw on the way out into the bay). It was still resting, but gave us another great fluke dive, a great finish to our tour.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 15:00

Report from Háfsulan: This afternoon we sailed onto a beautiful sea, it was cloudy but there was no wind and the ocean was quite calm, so the perfect conditions to spot some blows. On the way out, we encountered a group of harbor porpoises. However, as it is common for this species, after seeing them for a couple of times they disappeared. Some minutes later we found our first humpback whale. It was very close to the boat and after seeing its beautiful fluke before going for a deeper dive, we decided to continue our trip. Then, we found a second humpback. We stayed with it for a while because it seemed quite curious. It swam around the boat and we even saw it do some pec slaps. After that, we enjoyed the way back to port with a delicious hot chocolate.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 20:30

Report from Hafsulan: It was under a very fair wind and calm seas that we started our venture out in the bay. It was a bit rainy at first but the rain cleared very  fast and we could enjoy a beautiful midnight sun during our journey. It did not take long util we spotted a humpback whale with a pod of about 10 white beaked dolphins! The dolphins were very active, fast swimming and jumping, and the humpback also was very active at first, and even showed us some beautiful pectoral slapping on the water. We followed the dolphins first when they separated, we could even see 2 small calves with the dolphin pod, most likely a couple of days to week old. Then we went back to the humpback whale and observed it for a long time very calmly on the water surface. When time ran out we started our way home, but what a lucky trip with amazing dolphins and an amazing humpback, memories for a lifetime.
