  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

Today's whale watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We headed out with beautiful weather. It was warm, it was dry, the sun was trying to break through and the ocean was calm. We didn't have to go far, when we spotted the first cetaceans. There was a pod of 6-7 white beaked dolphins jumping in the distance and they were swimming towards us. Once they reached us they showed themselves very gracefully, so we could have a nice look at them. After a while we decided to go on, in order to find some more wildlife. As a goodbye "present" the dolphins started to jump joyful around and also left the scene while doing so. We saw a few bird species on our way and also 2 cormorants almost crashing in each other. Also a very big grey seal was having a look at us. Suddenly 2-3 Harbor Porpoises surfaces just in front of the boat and then 2 times next to the boat, but since they're quite shy, they disappeared after that. A little while longer in we found not one but 2 Humpback Whales ! One of them was Pongo. They were surfacing often, so we could have a perfect view of these two beauties. They even granted us a nice glimpse at their flukes when they dove down one after the other. We stayed a little longer watching the Humpbacks and right before we had to leave they gave us a really nice goodbye double fluke ! *-* What a great tour ! :)

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The afternoon was as calm as the morning, so we decided to go for some whale watching once again! Half an hour into the tour, while we were passing next to Grótta, a few splashes were seen, they were coming from a pod of 4 to 6 harbour porpoises that quickly swam away, as this is their most common trait. But, don't be sad about it, another 2 pods of around the same number of individuals were seen, so everyone got a chance to see the ninjas of the sea! Were went close to the shore once more and we struck gold! A pair of humpback whales was swimming calmly like the weather near the land! An amazing sight that was completed by a few fluke dives and slow ones too, for a better picture. After a bit of time with these gentle giants, we went back to the harbour to finish our tour!
