Tour status 9am and 1pm: RUNNING

We are sailing from the Harbour in Hafnarfjörður today but the meeting point is the same, the Old Harbour in Reykjavik. The wind is coming in strong from the south, and we hope to find more shelter there. We should be save from the rain but it will be quite choppy out at sea.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today we went out from Hafnarfjörður due to the strong winds coming from the South. After a 20-25 min ride by bus from Reykjavik, we arrived at the harbour and sailed out along the Reykjanes Peninsula to get shelter from the land. The trip was quite smooth considering the sea conditions, we just had the winds sometimes blowing right in to our faces. Unfortunately, we didn't see any signs of cetaceans during the tour, just a few gannets and gulls keeping us company. Therefore, we offered all our passengers complimentary tickets so that they can come on another whale watching tour with us either from Reykjavik (or a harbour close by) or Akureyri in the North of Iceland.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Not much change in the weather since the morning, so once again we decided to set sail from Hafnarfjörður, seeking for protection from the loving arm of Reykjanes. Turned out we choose wisely, as the sailing was calmer than expected ! There was only the chilly bite of a Southern wind to remind us to stay covered, but the sea conditions were optimal, with an extremely low and short swell. The spotting conditions were optimal as well, with decent visibility, scarce white caps, and grey sea that would have allowed any cetaceans to stand out. Alas, while weather was smiling upon us, wildlife seemed to be in a more sulking mood. Not a single fin was spotted ! And we did not get any help from the sea birds to find spots with food, they were rare as well. But this will not be the only opportunity we offer to our passengers, we handed over complimentary tickets to our passengers, eager to see them again and give them another chance to spot icelandic wildlife.
