Tour at 17:00

AMAZING TOUR!!!!! Still pretty rough weather but we probably wouldn't see what we did see without it. First great thing was the pod of Harbour Porpoises that were in the swell surfacing together in a line but they didn't stick around long. Then we suddenly saw a Minke Whale blow and stopped in that area and waiting what seemed a very long time for the Minke Whale to surface. When it did we were able to watch it surface many times before disappearing. Then we got word of another Minke with another boat and headed over there and what a Minke that one was, surfacing 10-15 meters from our boat and surfing the swell. Then as I was watching behind the boat looking for the whale to resurface I heard uproar from the passengers in front. I looked and what did we see . . . A BREACHING MINKE WHALE AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Absolutely Incredible.

Beautiful sunshine but still pretty strong winds in the Faxaflói bay in the afternoon. On the way out, the boat was dancing on the waves and we all enjoyed dramatic vistas of the rugged seas and the Snæfellsjökull in the distance. We had to search for a bit but then all went very fast. A Minke whale came up, and quite close to us with a big blow! Two more joined so that all of a sudden we found ourselves surrounded by Minkes. One of them was particularly interactive, circling the boat until we finally had to bid it farewell. On the way back, some diving sea Gannets. All in all a wild but fun tour!!

This tour started slow but ended well. It took us a long time to see the whales but in the end we saw many two small pods of Harbour Porpoises and at least 2-3 Minke Whales. One surfacing less than 10 meters from our boat. These rough seas are amazing to see the whales surfing the swells and travelling just beneath the surface in them. Great whales on this tour!!
