CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We started our sail out of the harbour with a little rain but it soon cleared and we could see a rainbow arching over the bay. After a lot of wind overnight, there was a bit of swell in Faxafloi today, but this made our adventure even more fun! After a bit of searching, we spotted a blow between the waves and when we got closer, we saw that it was a humpback whale! This whale was not in the most social mood as it would surface a few times and then disappear for a while. When we were waiting to see our original humpback, we also spotted a second one not too far away but it was doing similar behaviours to the first. After watching and waiting for these two for a while, we decided to move on. Not long after, we spotted a pod of 3 harbour porpoises and then a pod of 3-4 white-beaked dolphins! They were very curious and swam directly towards us to start bow riding at the front of the boat! Then out of nowhere, another blow! The dolphins were swimming around another humpback whale! The humpback started to roll and slap its pectoral fins on the water! It was so entertaining to watch these two species playing with each other at the surface. While we were watching them and after we left we saw 3 minke whales as well! They were not very interested in sticking around and just cut through the waves a few times before disappearing. As we turned to head back to the harbour, we saw a final pod of 2 harbour porpoises. An incredible morning with all four species we commonly see - the Faxafloi BINGO!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The sea and had calmed down a bit since this morning and so we sailed out happily, excited to hopefully get a glimpse of this mornings´ sightings again. After some searching, we spotted " blows! 2 Humpback whales Were resting side by side. We stayed with them for a bit and eventually they woke up and started moving a fair bit quicker. They headed towards an area where we could see a 3rd humpback, as well as a pod of around 10-12 white-beaked dolphins In the same area, a minke whale passed by and on the way back we spotted a 2nd rather large minke! The bay was full of life this afternoon so we could return to port feeling very fulfilled!
