CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we had the best conditions possible for whale watching. The sun was shining, the ocean was flat and there was no wind. All of us were so excited for this tour. Next to the harbour, we found an elusive harbour porpoise. We couldn't see it very well because it disappeared underwater when we passed it, but this was already a good sign. On our way out we saw a few minke whales. We stopped for only one of them so every one could take a good look at this species. After waving goodbye, we continued our journey until we found a humpback whale. This whale was a very relaxed individual enjoying its time in the surface under the sun, and almost every time it went for a deeper dive it showed us its beautiful fluke. We were very lucky because when it went to the surface to breathe, it did it right next to the boat, so everyone could get a good picture of the whale. Sadly, we had to start our way back to the port, but the adventure was not over. We stopped for a pod of 10 white beaked dolphins. They were very playful, jumping from time to time next to the boat. Such a beautiful way to finish the tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 11:00

Report from Hafsulan: Today the sun was shining so strong that everyone decided to stay outside and enjoy it! With calm seas it was super easy to spot even pour ,ore elusive species. Throughout the tour we had about 5 solitary minke whales popping up periodically. Then, we got to an area in which, wherever we would turn, we would spot something! There was about 6 humpback whales in the area, 2 pairs and 2 solitary.  We had some really close surfaces and it was amazing to be able to see their entire bodies through the water.  There were times where humpbacks were surrounding the boat which was fantastic. After flukes galore, we then were surprised with a breach! It is always amazing to see the entire humpback body out of the water! After much excitement and endless views, we waved our whales goodbye and headed back to port. What a great way to start the day.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Although the wind picked up a little bit this afternoon, we still had a very good tour, with great weather, as the sky was still sunny, the sea was calm and the temperature was comfortably warm. Our sightings started only a few miles from the coast, with a group of two harbour porpoises, which appeared to our ship´s right side, before disappearing again, as they are quite a shy species. We then had various sightings of minke whales, up to six of them, which also behaved somewhat shy, keeping a distance from our ship, but still filling our passengers with awe, every time these 7 to 10 meters long whales surfaced. Our third species were the humpback whales, which were feeding in an area full of northern gannets and fulmars. We saw 6 humpbacks being accompanied by a small pod of two or three white-beaked dolphins. At one point, these 2 humpbacks and the dolphins approached us and were less than 10 meters from our ship, leaving our guests extremely excited with this close-encounter. We then returned to harbour, still accompanied by great weather and happy to have sighted all of our four common species.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 15:00

Report from Hafsulan: With still sunny skies and a slight breeze, we applied our sunblock and headed out into the bay.  It was a bit choppier than this morning, but still we had excellent visibility for spotting. Suddenly, we spotted three harbor porpoises riding in the waves. It was amazing to spot them as conditions were not as calm as this morning. After a surface sequence, we waved them goodbye and kept going. Shortly after, we again spotted another group of two more harbor porpoises. After another surface interval, we kept on going as we spotted the dorsals of two white-beaked dolphins! We then had another pod of three white-beaked dolphins. It was amazing to see their bodies through the surface of the water as they started to bow ride! As we were with our dolphins, we spotted the blow of one humpback whale. As we arrived, we were treated right away to the fabulous fluke. When this humpback came up again it was very close and you could hear the blow! We then realized, that we did not have one but TWO humpback whales together! What a wonderful surprise! It was amazing to see their entire bodies through the surface, and track their movements by following their pectoral fins. After multiple surface sequences and close views, we counted ourselves lucky and headed back to port. What a great tour!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00

Report from Eldey: What a perfect tour to end the day. Beautiful sunny evening but still had the warm breeze that picked up a little for this evening tour. We sailed for 50minutes for our first encounter of a splashing pair of humpback whales. It was hard to know at first what they were doing as we were still a few miles away but once closer they just surfaced normally for a few breathes then 5-6mintue dives. As we scanned the horizon we could see more blows. At least 5 different individuals in the area but it was a pod of 6-8 white-beaked dolphins that peaked our interest next, breaching about a mile away. We had to check them out as they can move through an area quicker than the humpbacks. Then back to the humpbacks. Suddenly a minke whale started to head towards us, obviously attracted by the guides voice (minke whales being the guides favourite whale and they know it) and eventually surfaced just 10 meters from the boat. The closest sighting of any cetacean during this tour. back to the humpbacks, a different individual this time and after a few nice normal surface sequences the action started to happen. First a beach and then tail slapping ending with flipper slapping and this continued behind us as unfortunately we had to start making our way back home.
