Report from Elding: It was quite chilly this afternoon out on the water, the warm overalls kept us toasty warm and always nice to have a warm up in the heated onboard saloon. Once again it took us about 1 hour to get to our most productive spot with a couple of glimpses of 2-3 harbour porpoises on the way. In the middle of the bay after an hours sailing we found a minke whale feeding under a flock of birds mainly; kittiwakes, gannets, seagulls and puffins. We had a great look at this whale as it came up many times and occasionally just 5m from the boat. After a really nice encounter with this individual we cruised more to the south and found another very nice minke. Even though we concentrated our efforts on these two individuals we could see many more in the distance all around the boat. At least 5-7 more throughout the tour. On the journey home we listened to some music, drunk nice warm hot chocolate and relaxed for the ride.

Report from Elding: Gloomy weather didn’t stop us from enthusiastically sailing into the Faxa bay in search of an adventure. The sea was calm and the visibility good, the best situation for whale watching. After an hour of sailing our captain spotted a huge flock of feeding birds in the distance in front of us, so we headed in that promising direction. And indeed, as we arrived to the location we soon realized that we were not the only mammals out there. There were minke whales all around us, including our celebrity minke called Humpie. It was a real treat seeing these gentle giants surface for breath in every direction we looked. There were approximately 10 minke whales altogether on this tour. We were lucky enough to be in the middle of all this life: whales, puffins, gannets, terns, all feeding and completing the circle of life. Some of our passengers were even lucky to see 4, 5 harbour porpoises. Delightful tour indeed.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 09:00. We are expecting the wind to pick up a bit as the day goes on, so the sea will be a bit choppy, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
