CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey: We sailed out this morning into calm seas and the sun warmly shining on us. Not too long into the tour we spotted our first minke whale, that single whale would soon become many as we saw at least 15 minkes during the duration of the tour. This wasn't the only species species that seemingly came in bulk today, as we also spotted 8 humpback whales! Some of them were a bit more shy, while others were more social towards us, swimming very calm and closeby. 2 whales also swam in pair, and we stayed with this duo the longest, admiring their beautiful fluke dives. One whale even breached for us in the distance, and in the same direction we saw a pod of white-beaked dolphins happily jumping about. How alive the bay was this morning!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00
Report from Hafsulan: The weather this morning was perfect for whale watching. Even though it wasn't sunny, the visibility was great and the ocean was calm. After sailing out onto the bay we arrived in an area full of whales. We saw at least 4 minke whales, as shy as always but we could take a look at them every time they surfaced. However, the main characters of today's tour were the humpbacks. There were 2 groups of 3 and 4 humpback whales with other 3 in the same area. This humpbacks were very focused on feeding in the beginning but then they came super close to the boat, so everyone could take a good look of their whole body from above. They were also lunge feeding and bubble netting, and one even did a peduncle throw quite close to us. We waved these whales goodbye as we passed by them while we sailed back to the port.

Report from Eldey: What an unforgettable tour! Wet sail beneath cloudy skies and over calm seas, heading straight towards the open waters. Right at the start of our journey, we spotted our first humpback whale. It appeared to be resting, logging at the surface. We decided to leave it undisturbed and continued on our journey in search of more active whales. It didn't take a long before we came across three humpback whales together in the same area. Suddenly, one of them began breaching and kept breaching again and again. It must have jumped at least 12 times, leaving us absolutely speechless. It was an incredible show. After a while we let that magnificent whale continue its journey. felling grateful and thrilled by what we had witnessed. On our way back we encountered two more humpback whales and at least 6 minke whales and spent a bit of time with them as well. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 15:00
Report from Hafsulan: We headed out this morning beneath a heavy sky—mist hanging low over the water, the clouds thick and moody. After some time traveling through the calm, misty waters, a tall, misty blow pierced the stillness. Humpback! Not one, but two! We watched in awe as they lunge fed at the surface, mouths wide, bursting through schools of fish in a display of raw power and coordination. It was mesmerizing. But then, off in the distance—more blows. Several, in fact. Curiosity took over, and we set off toward them. As we neared the area, excitement burst through the boat: one of the humpbacks was breaching—again and again—even as we approached! Towering, full-body breaches, the whale launching itself from the water with incredible energy. The captain counted 30 breaches in total, and they continued even as we slowly motored away. It was like the whale was on a mission to show off. And just when we thought the day couldn't possibly get better, we spotted another humpback… this one accompanied by a pod of white-beaked dolphins! They danced around it, darting and weaving through the water like acrobats, adding a perfect exclamation point to an already unforgettable day.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00
Report from Eldey: The seas and winds were still very calm this late afternoon and the bay was still packed with wildlife. We saw at least 8 minke whales pop up here and there, as they were often very busy having their dinner. We also got inspected by a pod of 3 white-beaked dolphins, as they curiously inspected our boat for a few minutes and last but not least, we saw around 10 humpback whales all over the bay. We saw 2 pairs of humpbacks, going their merry way while others chose to be moreso by themselves. On multiple occasions, they were less than a few dozen meters away from us and fluke diving with their tails nice and high. Even though we were not lucky enough to see it up close, we did manage to see multiple 2 whales breach in the distance and one whale tailslapping for a good few minutes, making for an impressive, distant spectacle. Happy and content, we eventually headed back to Reykjavik, concluding our evening at sea.

Report from Elding: Our last tour of the day started with a very cloudy sky and some light rain. But, funny enough, soon after we left harbour, the sky turned brighter, as the clouds slightly dissipated, and the rain stopped for good. The bay was beautiful, with the sunlight rays painting the mountains in orange. Our first sighting came about 30 minutes into the tour. It was a minke whale, one of our most common species. Two more minkes followed, and we noticed the bay had plenty of whales today. Shortly after, we saw various large splashes going on over the horizon. As we approached the area, we were in awe to identify various humpback whales in our presence, many of which were breaching and pec-slapping. We spent a good time in there, with what seemed to have been up to 10 different humpbacks, doing various and continuous social behaviors, including a spy-hop, where a humpback brought its head out of the water, to spy on our boat, only 10 to 20 meters away from us. We then returned home happy to have experienced what was likely one of the most beautiful evenings we´ve had so far this summer.
