CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We left the harbour into the sea excited to search and find our first whales of the day. As we passed by the many islands near Reykjavík, the weather conditions were great, with a mostly flat sea. Further offshore, things got slightly more choppy, with some white-caps and a stronger wind. However, this didn't stop us from doing our job, as we soon arrived to an area full of minke whales. These were surfacing all around, some only a couple meters from us, and our crew rapidly counted up to 15 minkes over the horizon. After having fun with the minke whales, we proceeded with our journey and soon spotted large splashes ahead of our ship's bow. These splashes were being caused by a breaching humpback whale, and when we reached the area we counted up to 3 whales from this species. We spent a lovely time with these whales, followed by two more humpbacks and various minkes in a nearby area. At the end of the tour, as we headed back to the harbour, we were surprised by a curious white-beaked dolphin, who bow-rided our ship for a few minutes. A nice way of finishing our tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 11:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We left the harbor with a light rain that persisted during the rest of the tour. However, we were as excited as always to see what was waiting for us in our bay. As we sailed out, it was a little bit more wavy and windy, but we found our reward soon. We ended up in an area with 5 minke whales. These individuals displayed the normal behavior for this species, keeping their distance between themselves and the boat. However, we were very lucky to see them surfacing from time to time. Then we continued sailing and we found 2 more minkes on our way back to the port. This definitely made this rainy day way better.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon was gloomy and we had drizzling rain. However, our spirits were high! Shortly into the tour we were greeted by a minke whale that showed up a couple of times. We noticed a big spout in the distance and headed there. It turned out to be a humpback whale. This one was showing off its beautiful tail fluke. After spending some time with this individual we headed on in search for something else. Another humpback whale showed up in the distance, and it was seen doing bubble net feeding!! We got closer and it kept doing it time after time. We saw the bubbles creating rings on the surface and the flocks of birds went crazy. That was when we realized what was to come. The feeding happend close to the boat and it was absolutely magical to witness. The journey continued and we had another humpback whale that we got to see a couple of times. A pod of around 10 white beaked dolphins came towards our boat and passed us by which was very lovely. As we set sail back to the harbour the captain notified us of a breaching humpback whale in the distance. It breached twice but by the time people got outside it stopped and came to the surface normally. Two dolphins joined us very close to our boat at the same time. After this tour, especially after the repetitive bubble net feeding, we felt satisfied as we went back to the harbour. A successful day at sea!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 15:00

Report from Hafsula: We sailed out from Reykjavik port with direction towards the open waters. It didn´t took as long until we spotted 3 minke whales that were feeding at the same area. Not long after we show some blows further out. Indeed were not one but 3 humpback whales. They were bubble net feeding really close to our boat and left as speechless. On our way back me spotted at least 4 minke whales that made our tour even better.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 20:30

Report from Elding: The sun was preparing for a beautiful sunset this evening as we went out into calm seas with barely any wind this evening. The bay was once again full of life with at least 8 minke whales  Passing by during the duration of it and 5 humpback whales that we got to see close by as well. 2 humpbacks were swimming in pair, side by side while the other were on their business of the evening by themselves. The last humpback did steal the show though. After being very calm for some time, he suddenly got very active and started feeding, often lunging out as he did swoop in to get the fish. multiple times he even rolled on his side or back after the lunge, allowing us to spot its underside through the surface of the water! Excited we managed to keep the best 'til last, we eventually had to end the tour and sailed back with the sun setting behind us and a big moon rising in front of us.
