CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: our tour started with a strong wind, but as soon as we went further away from Reykjavik's harbour we could feel the sun and the very weak wind on our faces. With this excellent weather and the taste of summer that we wanted, we went out to look for our Faxaflói stars. We went to the area that we normally see the cetaceans, and we could see 2 harbour porpoises very close to the boat and very fast, but they were so close that me and the people that were at the bow could see them underneath the surface before taking another breath and disappearing. However, they were the only cetaceans that we saw in this trip and therefore we decided to give the passengers complimentary tickets for another chance of coming back and seeing our stars.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 10:00

Report from Eldey: Conditions were a bit rough today with a strong wind coming from the north but the sea was actually only a bit choppy and most our passengers had a pleasant sailing. The sky was covered in clouds with a bit of sun in the end of the tour. We went take shelter from the wind near Akranes, then went a bit more out until we spotted an area with more bird presence. With patience and concentration we finally spotted a blow in the distance! We went there and could see a humpback whale that was feeding in the area. The whale was diving quite long and moving a lot while under the surface which made it difficult for us to approach it. We still managed during those 4-5 cycles of dive and surfacing to have a good view on it a couple of times and to see its beautiful fluke dive. We were a bit late and headed back to Reykjavik, watching the northern fulmars gliding in the wind.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 19:00

Report from Eldey : The previous tour with no sightings left us with a pretty big challenge of finding again some cetaceans in the area. The sea was still a bit choppy but the sun had come up, so was already more pleasant to navigate. After 1h between the waves quite far at our 9 o clock we spotted a few white beaked dolphins. This pod of about 10 individuals gave us the greatest sighting by coming by ujs bow riding. they stayed for a while riding around the boat, jumping around, it was extremely enjoyable to watch. After some time of those friendly dolphins we left the area and ventured out try to see other animals. We then spotted the blow of a humpback whale in the distance. As we got closer we got to observe the blow and back of that individual only one time before it decided to leave the area and never come back up again. Unfortunately we will not get another sight of that humpback whale. It was then time to head back toward Reykjavik.
