CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 0900

Report from Eldey: We sailed out west in beautiful sunny conditions with nearly no wind and a very calm sea. It was just perfect conditions to spot any cetaceans even far out. We didn`t have to wait for long: After about half an hour we spotted our first minke whale. It showed itself three times but only for  very short surface sequences. We decided to continue our search further out in the bay of Faxafloi and we were not disappointed. Just a few minutes later we spotted a pod of around 15 white beaked dolphins that we then approached. We got so close to them that I from the guiding box could not see them anymore. They changed directions a few times but stayed really close to our boat. During our tour we saw a total of at least 5 different minke whales, most of them however were quite elusive. We also saw four different pods of white beaked dolphins.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We headed out into the bay under lovely blue sunny skies. The sea was also nice and calm. After around an hour of sailing we spotted a small pod of 3 harbour porpoises. We saw them surface a few times before they disappeared into the ocean. In the background of this we saw our first of 8-9 minke whales we would see throughout the tour. We then saw another one closer at 12 o'clock so we headed towards this one. It was likely feeding because of how many other minkes were around. In the distance we saw big splashes from a pod of white beaked dolphins. On our way to these we saw a blow from a humpback whale! We followed this humpback for a bit. It was likely travelling because it would only ever surface once as it arched it's back. It would then only be down for 1-2 minutes before surfacing again. We started to run out of time so we headed back. We now found another pod of 4 dolphins that came very close to our boat. This included a small juvenile! As we continued to head back we saw more minke whales. What a fantastic tour!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out west near the area we went to in the morning. We had beautiful sunny weather, probably because it is our engineers birthday. While sailing around in that area we saw a total of 4 minke whales. They were all very elusive and only seen by crew members and few guests on board. Later we encountered a pod of around 10 white beaked dolphins that we could watch really close to our boat. We all enjoyed our tour in the icelandic summer-sun, however we had only poor sightings. Thats why we decided to give out complimentary tickets to our passengers.
