CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: weather reports indicated a nice large swell with a very long period and that's what we got, long slow gentle rocking on the way out. Despite the lack of wind ensuring very little white caps we didn't see any animals for a good hour into the trip but for an occasional northern fulmer flying past. Eventually I spotted some northern gannets diving in the distance and it got my hopes up that we might see some whales; I was quickly proven right. Almost as soon as we stopped to watch a minke whale surfaces right in front of the boat, followed by another a small distance away. However just as quickly as they appeared, both whales disappeared and so we began to move on and see what else we could find. Approaching another whale watching boat we saw more birds and more minke whales, about another 4 in total, irregularly surfacing and diving again nearby us. Suddenly 3 white beaked dolphins showed up and said hi, but uncharacteristically they behaved a bit like the minke whales, appearing for a couple surfaces before disappearing again. Sadly we did run out of time and began to head home, but due to the poor sightings we decided to hand out complimentary tickets so everyone could come back another time and hopefully see better sightings.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather and wind looked ok but the waves were high and rocked the boat quite heavily, which made walking on deck a bit difficult sometimes. This however, did not stop us from searching for whales. The first one was a quick minke whale! This one came even close to us, showing us its beautiful back and fin. After admiring this one for a couple of breaths we sailed off to find something else, which was a small pod of white-beaked dolphins! This pod was not too much in a whale watching mood but we still got the chance to see these beautiful animals a couple of times in their natural environment.
