Report from Eldey: The wind picked down considerably during our afternoon trip, giving us the chance to sail over calm waters during the tour. It didn't take too much until we were able to have the first encounter. We spotted a blow in the distance and when we got closer we saw a friendly humpback whale swimming around our boat and feeding over reddish krill near the surface. After enjoying this animal for a while, we carried on with our trip and some harbour porpoises crossed our path several times, a total of 7 individuals. But it wasn't all, another humpback whale was spotted and we enjoyed for a while between us. Another blow was seeing in the distance making a total of 3 humpbacks during the tour.

Report from Eldey: Although the skies were black and menacing, we sailed out with a small group of passenger which added to the feeling of togetherness on the boat. Luckily it was not that cold as it can be and we didn't freeze that much until we encountered a cetacean. It was a juvenile humpback whale! He/she was very relaxed and didn't mind our boat one bit. We pretty much sat there motionless while the animal was diving and surfacing in front of us. It was obviously very busy feeding. A few times it came quite close to the boat and it showed us it's fluke tail when it went for a deep dive. It was a real treat to see the young whale so unburdened by caution and so concentrated on getting those daily calories. To add to the experience, we had a small pod of 4 harbour porpoises diving fast and jumping right off our port side. Images like these stay with you forever, no matter if it was the first time you saw a whale or if you are a tour guide. ;)

Bird species seen on today's tours include: eider duck, redshank, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, black-headed gull, great black-backed gull, herring gull, great skua, northern gannet, greylag goose, common guillemot, black guillemot, atlantic puffin.
We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. There is some wind and swells out on Faxabay so if you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. All our boats have inside and outside areas and to make the tour even more comfortable we provide warm overalls.
