Report from Eldey: With winds still strong but the sun also shining brightly, we sailed out once more this afternoon. Of course we began our search where we had seen the minke whale on our morning tour. As we are dealing with wildlife though, the animals have complete freedom to move around and we do not know if they will still be in the same area. Since we did not spot the whale, despite slowing down to really look properly, we decided to brave the waves and took a more rocky course towards Akraness and search areas we had not been today. Once roughly 10 miles out from the harbour, birds were soaring close to the water surface everywhere. Surely 100 if not more of them. This being an indicator for fish around, we sharpened our eyes even more to spot a blow or a black back. We did have a pod of likely 5 harbour porpoises corssing our path, happily feeding on the food there. To our surprise though, nothing else showed up during our tour. For that reason we provided all passengers with a complimentary return ticket which they can chose to use within the next two years time either in Reykjavik or Akureyri.

Report from Eldey: A windy day in Faxafloi! It was sunshine and mostly clear skies but a strong chilly wind blowing and white-capped waves surrounding us, making it a proper winter's sail. We had barely left the harbour area behind us, as suddendly a big blow appeared from the water in front of us. A minke whale! This was very unexpected since whales and dolphins usually don't stay this close to the shoreline and the city. It was a bigger individual, this also indicated by its big and powerful blow. We waited close to Videy island, checking a little bit in Kollafjodur as well to see where the whale would pop up next. Unfortunately, we didn't see it come up again, reminding us of how unpredictible wildlife can exactly be. We continued sailing and searching along the Eastern part of the bay, reaching the mouth of Hvalfjordur. On our way back we spotted a little harbour seal pop up next to the boat. But despite our best efforts we could not find the minke whale again or other cetaceans, unfortunately. For this reason, we gave everyone a complimentary ticket allowing to come on another whale watching tour for free within the next two years.

Bird species seen today include: northern fulmar, black-headed gull, eider duck, red-breasted merganser, black-backed gull, common cormorant, common shag.
We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tours at 9:00. There is always some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office.
