Tuesday, 26 October 2021

Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
  • PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 10:00
  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
  • PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 14:00

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. Masks are not mandatory but are recommended in areas where keeping distance from others is not possible.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: The morning was cold, not a lot of clouds and we could admire the sunrise. The sea was moving quite a lot so we decided to go a little closer to the shore for the comfort of our passengers. This had the added bonus that we could admire the mountains from up close. Esja and Akrafjall´s peaks were lightly covered with snow, the sun was rising behind them, and we could even see Snæfellsjökull today. It was great to admire these mountains from the sea, but we were waiting to see whales and dolphins. Unfortunately, they didn't show up today. Passengers received complimentary tickets, so we will try again on another day. Perhaps the landscape will not be as beautiful as it is today, but we will hopefully meet the whales and dolphins instead.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was a cold afternoon with a very strong wind blowing. At first we stayed close to the shore so that the ship wouldn't move too much. However, we were determined to find whales or dolphins, so after all we went out very far into the bay. Our patience payed off, because we saw a blow close to a fishing boat. The blow turned out to belong to a humpback whale! We stood up to watch him and he showed up several times and eventually showed us his tail. Suddenly, he jumped! - An absolutely spectacular sight that we will never forget. After a while, even three white-beaked dolphins appeared, which were jumping and swimming with the boat. As we came back, the sun was setting behind the mountains, but the sea also became quite rocky so we sat outside and drank hot chocolates and tea. It was a beautiful end to a very moving day.
