Report from Hafsulan: We had a beautiful morning out in the bay, full of sunshine and calm seas. On our way out from the harbor area, we were excited to pass by two of the breeding islands for the Atlantic puffins Engey and Akurey. We saw how the small birds flew back and forth from there, coming back, and taking off on their feeding excursions. We were basking in the sunshine, and suddenly, some small fins appeared to have broken the surface in the area ahead. We had found a pod of 7 white beaked dolphins! We stopped to admire them frequently surfacing together. When the dolphins decided to change direction away from us, we took that as our sign to also keep going. However, we did not have to sail for very long, as another pod of 15 white beaked dolphins appeared. This group had a few small calves with them, frequently surfacing and making small leaps next to the noticeably bigger adults. We stayed here for quite some time admiring the dolphins, and were even able to see some full breaches out of the air. This was really a morning full of dolphin magic, because after this pod we encountered a third pod of 10 white beaked dolphins. This time they came very close to us and we were able to watch their beautiful color pattern just a few meters away from the boat and we even had a rainbow show up in the sky. On our return, we enjoyed the good weather and admired the beautiful surroundings.

Report from Eldey: We headed out of the old harbour with partly cloudy skies and perfect sea conditions, super flat and little wind. After briefing everyone on the species we are most likely to see and how to spot them we started scouring Faxafloi bay for cetacean activity. After about 30 minutes we spotted our first species, 3 White beaked dolphins coming very close to the boat. We could clearly see their distinct coloration of whites and blacks as they came up and just under the water. We moved on and just in front of Hvalfjordur, the whale fjord, we found one humpback whale. This individual was probably feeding below, and we could see a series of surfaces, blows, and eventually the lovely fluke as it went for a deep dive. Two times the whale surfaced right next to our boat, leaving everyone speechless, as we could see the whale in great detail. We admired this individual for a bit more, and all of us could have stayed there all day, but it was time to head back. We slowly made our way back to port, with full hearts and the biggest smiles.

Report from Hafsulan: The sun was shining intensely on us today and we were also spoiled with flat seas. We did not have to wait for long until we spotted our first sighting. As we were heading out into the open ocean we noticed something in the corner of our eye. A big spout of misty air coming up several meters followed by a fluke dive. This could only mean one thing - we found a humpback whale. We turned the boat around an investigated further. It was an easy individual to follow since it came up very frequently and almost always showed off with a fluke dive. The passengers were really excited about the tail fluke and was cheering loudly every time it was shown. We got to spend quite some time with this individual and when surfacing we were blessed with many "rainblows" (rainbow blows) - it was stunning! The big white pectorial fins were also clearly visible through the water. It was a great encounter. We continued our journey in hopes of seeing something else, but without luck. We were blessed early on in the tour with a sighting that close to land. Lovely tour today!

Report from Elding: At the afternoon, the sea conditions remained perfect for another whale-watching adventure. We enjoyed the calm waters so much it finally felt like summer. We headed north, hoping to reach the area where we had spotted the whale earlier in the day. Of course, it was no longer there; whales are constantly on the move. So, we continued sailing farther north until suddenly... a blow in the distance! We spotted a far far away and slowly made our way toward the area, hoping to encounter this magnificent creature once again. By the time we arrived, the humpback whale had already disappeared beneath the surface, so we waited patiently. After a few minutes, it surfaced again, giving us another chance to watch its blowholes open as it took a deep breath. Moments later, its beautiful tail rose gracefully above the water, confirming that it was the very same individual we had seen that morning. This time, the whale made an especially long dive and resurfaced much farther from the boat. We kept watching, wondering where it would appear next. Then the magic happened. Completely out of nowhere, the whale launched itself out of the water in a spectacular breach. So close to our boat that it stopped our hearts for a second. No one expected it. The enormous splash, the sheer power of such a massive animal through the air. The whale gave us 18 breaches.An absolutely incredible display!! It was one of those unforgettable moments that reminds us why every trip is different and why nature always has the power to surprise us. Thank you whale!
