  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00

All whale watching tours are on schedule today from Reykjavík! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed out in beautiful weather. The sea was calm, the sun was shining ! Not far from the harbor we spotted our first blow. There was a Humpback Whale around the islands. But to our surprise there wasn't just 1, no in total there were 3 Humpback Whales. 2 paired up and one solitary not far from the other 2. We decided to stay with the 2 humpbacks, that were together. One of the humpbacks is a known one, it's name is Birdie. After a while enjoying them, watching them surface a few times, taking breaths and dives and showing us their flukes, we decided to go to the third solitary one. This one was very sleepy, so we didn't see much of it. Peacefully sleeping we left the humpback, because we ran out of time.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The afternoon was also beautifully calm, with perfect blue skies and mirror-like seas. We sailed back between the islands and soon found our pair of humpback whales again! They continued to swim side-by-side for the whole encounter. As we followed them, we noticed that one always stayed at the surface for longer and usually gave us a nice fluke dive, while the other would dive earlier with no fluke! They headed into shallower waters, closer to Viðey where we could not follow and once another boat arrived, we decided to carry on our search and look for other cetaceans. It didn't take us long to find our second species - a minke whale. This individual was moving around a lot and changing direction frequently. With the amazing conditions we had in the bay today, we were still able to follow it easily. A few times the minke even surfaced very close to us - not something they usually do! After a while, we started to get close to the end of our tour so we stopped back with our original humpback pair for a few more surface sequences before we sailed past the Sun Voyager and into the harbour.
