Report from Eldey: We braved the high swells and northern winds on this afternoon´s tour to search for cetaceans. We had a first glimpse of a minke whale that quickly disappeared. Then in the same area, our hardship was rewarded, because we had a great sighting with the humpback whale Mariupol and a pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins swimming around him. The humpback whale seemed a bit bothered by the playful dolphins, lifting his pectoral fin and at some point even chasing the dolphins. In the same area, we spotted two minke whales but they were fast so most of our focus was on the other two species. After the sighting, we made our way back to Reykjavík as calmly as possible, on the way still enjoying the abundant birdlife with northern gannets plunge-diving, and warming up in the saloon, and some of us recovering from seasickness.
