✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR ON SCHEDULE |  09:00

Report from Elding: The weather was quite nice as we headed out from the harbour on our morning tour, but a bit windy out at sea. We quickly found a humpback whale, it was quite relaxed, resting near the surface and coming up for breath now and again. At the same time that we spotted the humpback, we saw a few white-beaked dolphins at some distance to our left. We decided to stay in the vicinity of the humpback while enjoying the dolphins from a far, before they changed their direction and went another way. On the way back, a passenger thought he spotted a minke whale, but the elusive minke did not resurface close to us before the tour came to an end.

✔ PREMIUM WHALE AND PUFFIN TOUR ON SCHEDULE |  10:00

Report from Þruma : This morning was fully clouded with a little bit of rain which is a good thing because it will drop down the air pollution that was coming from the volcano those last few days. The sea was a bit choppy but still calm enough to have a good visibility and to not get wet. We started with a quick stop to see the puffins, but another boat told us that they saw a whale not very faraway, so we rapidly went there. It was a humpback whale that was staying close to the surface, probably resting and moving in an other area. We could follow this animal for a long time, it was very easy to stay at a respectful distance following it at a 4 knots speed (less than 8 km/h). We tried to find explore a bit other areas but we could not find anything else so we decide to have a better look at the puffins going to Lundey, one of the island near Reykjavik where thousands of puffins are breeding every year. There was some impressive acrobatic scenes of arctic skuas chasing the puffins to steal there fish.

✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 13:00 

Report from Elding: It was a very chilly afternoon with 8-10m/s winds and slight swell from the southwest. The southerly winds brought overcast skies and a little fine rain but all in all it stayed mostly dry.We sailed for a long time almost 1 1/2 hours without any sightings until passengers started to point. With the description we got it sounded like it was a minke whale but unfortunately we didn’t see it again despite searching a little while. We continued for longer and saw many puffins, gannets, fulmars and kittiwakes but unfortunatly no whales. Then suddenly we got work from another whale watching boat that had found a humpback whale. After 15mins we arrived and the whale looked to be resting, surfacing 2-3 times and then going for 3-5min dives. It didn’t seem to be diving very deep as it never really showed the fluke. Just arched the back. We were so happy we got to see at least one humpback whale on today’s tour.

Bird Species ID´d today: Northern Gannet, Atlantic Puffin, Common Guillemot, Arctic tern, Arctic skua, Northern Fulmar, Kittiwake, Eider Duck, great-black backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, herring gull.
