Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Our morning gave us some success but we´re always on the hunt for that little extra here at Elding! Our special factor for this afternoon was that for a very long time during the tour we were constantly surrounded by diving Northern Gannets, they were diving right beside the boat and even when there weren´t any whales around they were very entertaining. But we did see whales too! We saw 4 Minke Whales this afternoon, due to all the feeding birds around us it was likely that some of the whales were feeding. They were diving very often and surfacing in every direction, very unpredictable but it certainly kept us on our toes! At times when we were sailing out there was a very calm wind and sea, it was such a relaxing sail and to be surrounded by dynamic wildlife is a great bonus.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The skies was clouded and grey with winds coming from the east. Throughout the tour, however, the weather cleared up and some blue skies and sun was leaking through the clouds. Approximately 5 Harbour Porpoises popped up unexpectedly on our way out into the Bay of Flaxafloí. When we discovered a flock of bomb-diving Gannets, we expected whales to be around. After a short while 2-3 scattered Minke Whales surfaced at random places and distances around the boat. Fortunately enough, one Minke Whale was announced by the appearance of a couple of Harbour Porpoises, which gave us one real good and close look at this baleen whale. Nevertheless, the whales seemed more elusive and occupied with traveling around the bay this morning.

Birds seen on today tour include: Northern Gannet, Northern Fulmar, Arctic Tern, Atlantic Puffin, Guillemot, Eider Duck, Black-Backed Gull, Kittiwake, Arctic Skua.
