Tour at 13:00
Report from Hafsúlan: The sea was still very calm and visibility great, could not see as far as the Snæfellsnes peninsula but still far enough. We searched a large area and after 40 minutes saw our first ceacean, a minke whale but far and going quite fast. We waited patiently but unfortunately the minke was not sighted again. After about 20 more minutes I started to tell our passengers about the smallest cetacean we encounter, the harbour porpoise and as if they were listening they popped up, a pod of about 5-6 very close to the boat, just 5-10 meters. ´Speak of the devil´. We search and searched but the bay looked empty, even on the birdlife standards. We then received a call from another whale watching vessel, a humpback whale was spotted. Off we went. A nice humpback, which quite perturbed at first but soon started to relax and surface more often and slowely, even brought up its tail a couple of times. Very nice end to the tour. You never know when it comes to wildlife what will happen from tour to tour. Makes for an exciting experience.

Birds seen today's tours include: northern gannet, eider duck, black-headed gull, black-backed gull, glaucous gull, iceland gull, black-legged kittiwake, long-tailed duck.
Tour at 09:00:
The sea this morning was very calm and the visibility great. After 45 mns sailing out we saw a pod of harbour porpoises (5 individuals). They were quite close to the boat, so for a usually quite shy species we had a good sighting. 20 mns later we came accross a minke whale. Soon we realised there was not just one minke whale but 3 of them! We had a very look at 2 of them, which seemed relaxed enough to appear close to our boat. While we were watching them, we also saw more harbour porpoise in different locations around us. It seems we stumbbled upon a very productive area where cetaceans were feeding. It was an excellent trip!
