Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

Report from Eldey: It was a very cold tour in the bay, we could even see the snow on top of the mountains surrounding Faxafloi bay. We sailed out, the sea being relatively flat wen you consider the storm in the past days, hoping to see something. It took us about one hour before the captain spotted some fins in the distance : it was some white beaked dolphins ! A pod of about 5 were around us, changing behaviour, racing in the waves, and even coming bow riding. We could see them for about 30 minutes, followed them around, and enjoyed seeing them riding our waves. It was a very nice sighting in the very cold wind, afterwards we started to go back toward the harbour exploring other areas. Nothing else appeared so we made our way back to the harbour enjoying the nice views.

Bird species seen today include:
Common guillemot, razorbill, black legged kittiwake.
Wildlife encountered today:
The white-beaked dolphin is the most common dolphin found in the surrounding waters of Iceland and is seen not only in the summer but winter too usually in larger numbers, hundreds sometimes. When feeding they show energetic behaviour such as breaching out of the water and coming down with a big splash and bursts of fast swimming.
