  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

Today's whale watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: The wind was offshore and quite strong but the waves were calm and smooth. Our boat passed close to a reef next to Grotta, which created the perfect waves thanks to the wind coming from land! We continued heading to the lucky place we found yesterday morning and what you know, we got lucky again! Dozens of Northern gannets diving gave us clues about something special happening. A few blows were seen and soon enough, 3 humpback whales were identified. One of them was Pongo, who presented himself by lunging into a school of sprat desperate to gain wings and fly away from the whale's mouth. The other 2 gentle giants were doing the same behaviour and one of them decided to join the main character and continue with the show. As the gannets flew super close to us, so did the whales, swimming, not flying. After an hour of watching the amazing beasts we had to start to make our way back into the harbour of Reykjavík as our journey would be another hour or so.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR I 13:00

Report from Eldey: The afternoon started with strong winds from east but luckily we were able to use land as protection and enjoyed a smooth sailing all the way to Hafnarfjordur were we spent the previous morning tour. As we got closer we started to see blows in the distance and a large group of Northern gannets diving around hinted that something extraordinary was happening. Soon, we spotted 3 humpback whales! We could recognise one of them, it was Pongo! The whales were lunge feeding multiple times around us really close to shore!! As the gannets swooped down almost within arm’s reach, the whales swam just as gracefully beneath us. After an hour of watching this incredible display, we had to start heading back to Reykjavík, with another hour of travel ahead of us to end our day.
