  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00

All whale watching tours are on schedule today from Reykjavík! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 09:00

Report from Elding: This morning the weather was cold but fair and we were greeted by a beautiful sunrise as we sailed out. Quite quickly we found a humpback whale! At first, it was going for some dives, surfacing relatively short but with a great fluke in the air each time. The whale then decided to take a nap then and there so for quite a whale we got to stay along side it as it was resting near the surface. Eventually, it did wake up again and as it went for another dive, we continued our search between the islands. After a good search, we then encountered a big minke whale, frantically travelling the area. We spent some time with this whale as well until the end of our tour so we could sail back very satisfied!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 13:00

Report from Elding: It's time for our afternoon tour, the sun is still shining and the cold is still here. Well, at least the coffee machine is working to make that amazing coffee and hot chocolate to warm us up! So we went out of the harbour and after about 15 minutes we saw a blow on our port side. It came from the insides of a humpback whale, a very sleepy individual that we saw during the morning tour. It was obvious to us that this whale was dreaming as it didn't move for a long time, but then, it decided to go to action and go down for a second, take a breath, and fluke dive very slowly for every guest to have a chance to gasp as it went down and deep. We waited for about 6 or 7 minutes and it came back up, almost in the same spot and went back to the same activity it was doing before, napping. We decided to head out and search for more stuff along the water line. A few eider ducks later, we decided to head back to the whale and give it another chance. We were hopeful but this whale seemed to have had a big meal and it was like every Spaniard after lunch, siesta time. Fortunately, it gave us not one but two amazing, slow and up close fluke dives that we happily registered with our eyes and hearts before heading back to the harbour.
