Tour at 17:00

We sailed straight out into Faxaflói for this tour, straight to the whales however the wind had picked up making it a little harder to locate the whale especially because the flocks of birds had all disappeared and no longer showed us were the whales were. We did locate one Minke than surfaced many times and close to the boat too. Then other boats came and the Minke changed its behaviour and became more elusive so we left it in peace. But very good encounter. Ended the tour at Akurey and saw some Puffins which looked like they were being tormented by about 5 Skuas and gulls. So not surprising there weren’t so many around. Good tour.

We sailed out with a boat full of exited passengers, eager to spot whales and so we did. Soon we saw a Minke Whale which was a rather good individual and came few times close up to the boat. At the same time, we saw one Harbor Porpoise just next to the boat but she went away quickly. We went a bit further out and spotted 2 Minke whales. They came close to the boat several times but then disappeared. In the distance, we saw a big flock of feeding birds so we thought of giving it a try and went to the bird area. We were all happy that we did that because those 2 Minke Whales that we found were exceptionally entertaining, actively feeding on the surface and coming very close to the boat. Throughout the trip we also saw a lot of diving gannets and other seabirds. The passengers left the boat with a big smile (-:

We sailed straight out into Faxaflói Bay with a calm sea and the sun shining. We sailed for about 40-50 minutes before we came to the Minke watching area. There must of been about 4 or 5 in the area but we mainly concentrated our tour on about 3. There were thousands of Gannets in the area which was really nice to see. We also saw a small pod of White-beaked Dolphins in the distance but they soon disappeared so we headed to another Minke Whale which we saw surface feeding. We ended the tour at Lundey and there were some Puffins but i think most of them were out at sea or in their borrows.

We went out on two boats this sunny morning, the sea was calm and conditions were really good. First we went to Akurey to  sea the Puffins. There were many of them there this morning both flying above the Island and also sitting at the surface around it, other birds we spotted around there were Kittiwakes, Artic Terns, Artic Skuas and Gulls. We then headed out into Faxaflói in search for the bigger Whales. Out there we spotted a huge flock of feeding Gannets, we haven't had such a big flock for a while so it was great to see them so many again. When looking at the Gannets we spotted our first Minke Whale. This Minke Whale was very nice surfacing many times very close to the boat. It was feeding there and several times we were able to see the white belly through the surface. When it was getting quiet there and the Minke started to head away we sailed further out where we found flock of feeding Gulls and in that area we spotted at least 3 other Minke Whales surfacing all around us, a great tour to start the day.
