Tour at 13:00

Once again it took us a while before seeing our first Minke Whale and what a great Minke it was, surfacing only 20-30 meters from our boat. We were also lucky on this tour to view the spectacular feeding behaviour of the Northern Gannets as they plunge into the water after fish from great heights. Not an eventful beginning to the tour but a fantastic ending.

Tour at 09:00

When we set of this morning it was windy, sunny but very cold. It took us a long time to find the whales this morning but finally we got word from another whale watching vessel of at least two Minke whales in their area. We were off. First whale of the day and it was a great whale as it surfaced 3 times in a row and very close to us too (60-70 meters). We stayed to watch this whale a little longer however time was running out and we had to get back to land. Great whale to end the tour with.

Birds seen on todays tours: Gannets, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Puffins, Arctic Skuas, Guillemots, Arctic Terns, Lesser Black-backed Gulls, Cormorants, Eider Ducks, Brent geese. Last three only seen on Puffin Island.
