- CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00
Today's whale watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!
CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey: We started with nice warm weather but a little rain. So we headed out into Faxafloi Bay and after a short time we found a pod of white beaked dolphins. They were quite shy at first, but then they came closer to check us out. Then one of them started jumping a few times. After a while we kept going to look for something else. At one point we had to go back though, because we ran out of time. But it was nice to finally see the dolphins around again. :)

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR I 13:00
Report from Eldey: We still had some rain over the tour this afternoon, but it was well worth sailing out into the bay! Soon after passing the islands we saw a grey seal eating a fish at the surface of the water! It let us come really close before diving out of our way - maybe enjoying its fishy lunch too much to realise we were there! We didn't have to go too much farther until we found our first cetaceans. It was a small pod of around 5 white-beaked dolphins. They were curious at first and came up close to us a few times. We were with another whale watching boat and were able to watch the dolphins bow ride with them for a little while. However, all of a sudden they decided play time was over and disappeared from the area. We continued further out into Faxafloi as we had already seen another pod of dolphins jumping in the distance! This pod was bigger and more spread out (10-12 individuals) and they were also more social. We stayed with them for almost half an hour, watching their striped bodies through the water as they swam up to and underneath the boat. Amongst the pod we noticed a mother-calf pair! It was so exciting to see the tiny calf swimming close to us. It was very unusual that the mother let the calf come so close but we were able to see them really well. We then continued our journey around the bay but didn't see any other species so eventually had to start heading back in towards the harbour after some great dolphin encounters.
