  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00

All whale watching tours are on schedule today from Reykjavík! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Hafsulan:

We sailed out into the bay with very bumpy sea conditions and snowfall changing into rain and back again. We tried to sail further out into the bay, but it was not possible, with the conditions. So we sailed around the islands, to see if some of the animals are in shallower waters. We had to be very patient, but at the end of the of the tour we saw a minke whale surfacing a few times and then all of a sudden a humpback whale also came up to the surface, right in front of us. since we were already late, we only could see it 2 times and then had to leave. But it's always great to see the biggest species that we have here in the bay. :)

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: This afternoon, we had very similar weather but now more rain than snow. This didn't stop us getting out and exploring the bay though! We first headed between the islands to see if we could spot the whales we saw this morning and it wasn't long before we did! First we spotted a minke whale but this individual was being quite elusive so we only saw it a few times but while we were waiting for it - a humpback whale appeared! This was probably the same individual we saw this morning as it was in a very similar location. We decided to follow the humpback for a while and at first it was a little tricky, doing just one breath and then fluke diving, but then it started to settle down and started logging like it has been doing for the last few days. This meant we could easily follow it at the surface and sometimes see its bright white pectoral fins through the water! When the whale went down for one of its dives, we even saw 2 harbour seals bobbing at the surface, giving us a good look! After a while, we decided to try and find the minke whale again. We were able to see it a couple more times but it was still being shy so we stopped back at our humpback whale before having to go back to the harbour.
