CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey : A strong northern wind was blowing this morning, but the sun was shining bright and visibility was strong in the bay. We sailed for a while without seeing any other animal than seabirds but admiring the beautiful views on the Snæfellsjökull, Keilir volcano and the whole Reykjanes peninsula. Finally, we found a humpback whale ! And not any whale : an individual we know well and love for its curious nature and interactive behaviors. Davy Jones II (that's his/her little nickname) went for a few dives before, as usual, coming to inspect our boat, to the greatest pleasure of passengers that could watch the whale just a  few meters below them and hear its powerful breathing. Before we had to leave, Davy enchanted us with a couple of beautiful fluke dives, until we had to say goodbye and start making our way back to the harbor. A great tour to start another great day in the bay.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey. We had a great tour this afternoon. Sea conditions were rather better than this morning but still a bit windy as we sailed out into sunny Faxaflói bay. Soon we encountered a pod of at least 8 harbour porpoises but the encounter was typically brief. A little further out we found 2 humpback whales that surfaced many times but were also moving around a lot and did not come very close to the boat. We then decided to move a bit further out in a direction were we had seen other blows. It turned out to be another humpback whale, our old friend, that we have named Davy Jones II, that we also encountered on the morning tour. He surfaced many times very close to the boat and showed us the fluke when he dived. He swam to the boat, under it and resurfaced on the other side, amazing! There was a total of 4 humpback whales plus the 8 porpoises noted on the tour, what a lovely afternoon!
