  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00

Today's whale watching tour from Reykjavík is on schedule! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Elding 1:

We went out before sunrise, so it was still dark and we could see the nice skyline of Reykjavik, the sea was calm but the wind cold. Still we had not to go out very far, when we first saw 2 humpback whales in the distance. They were feeding together and taking shallow dives. One of the humpback whales is known as Banana ! This is also the one showing us its fluke. After a while we left them alone and checked out the rest of the area in the hope of finding something else, but we ended back up with the humpback whales. We watched them doing their thing and then had to leave because we ran out of time. It was a wonderful encounter with these two and quite rare, because humpbacks usually don't travel in pairs. :)

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The afternoon tour started under a cloudy sky with a bit of wind to go with it but still calm seas. After about 15 minutes of sailing around the islands of the capital, 2 blows from 2 humpback whales were seen coming up about 500m away from us. We went there to investigate and confirm that they were in fact humpbacks but also the same pair we saw during the morning tour. Banana and her buddy! They were being good boys, fluke diving and coming up on time, about 5 minutes each. Pretty much at the same time, they gave us a fluke show, with all types of fluke diving: classic slow, lazy, late and non-existing! After a while with them we went out in search of more but all we saw was a big flock of eider ducks bobbing around. Still, on the way back we passed by the gentle giants, still feeding on sprat, to say goodbye and maybe see you tomorrow!

Birds seen today:

Common eider, black guillemot, common guillemot, razorbill, common loon, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, great cormorant, European shag, black-legged kittiwake.
