CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: WOW what a tour today! The sunlight this morning beautifully decorated the landscape around Faxaflói, the Eastern wind was low, the weather not too cold, and the visibility was great despite a few whitecaps. We first spotted a minke whale, and in the same area we saw two other individuals that came up once in a while to show us their high dorsal fins and long dark backs. We stayed with the minke whales for some time but in the distance we could spot much larger blows - could these be from humpbacks? When we came closer we discovered there was not just one humpback whale, not two, but three individuals! They were immediately very curious and came right up to the boat. Sometimes they lifted their heads slightly out of the water, almost spyhopping, and other times Mariupol and Neila were rolling and lifting their pectoral fins out of the water. They spent a very long time with us and every moment was special. Even the crew felt so lucky to have experienced such a close encounter with these three curious giants and observe them interacting with each other and with us.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Today´s great sightings continued during the afternoon. We spotted the large blows of three humpback whales, and in the same area was a minke whale and a pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins. We started with the humpback whales who were resting and then became quite curious about our boat and another large boat that was watching them. They came really close and we got to spend some wonderful moments with them, but then we started focusing on the white-beaked dolphins who also came right up to us. We saw another pod in the distance so there must have been between 10 - 15 dolphins in the wider area. After these wonderful sightings we motored back to Reykjavík with a quick stop by the humpback whales to say goodbye. Closer to the harbour we also spotted 4 harbour porpoises and one more elusive minke!
