CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today the sea was fairly calm, as we saw sailing out in Faxaflói. Although grey, the visibility was very good and we could spot many fins here and there, starting with 2 minke whales! We continued our trip, as these ones were just passing by, tricky as they are. We then stopped for a 3rd minke not far from thee first ones that was pretty close to our vessel! At the same area, not far, we spotted a bigger animal: a humpback whale going down. In fact, after we stopped for a bit, 3 more minkes started to come very close indeed in different directions, allowing everyone to have a good look at them! There was another humpback at the same area, while the minkes were taking over the place, with over 20 individuals! We ended up seeing a 3rd humpback on our front, and we knew we found the spot: such a productive area with so much going on! We couldn't even move much because of the animals coming and going, with several times we had both humpbacks and minkes taking their time next to our vessel. We realized we were running out of time and started heading back slowly to the harbour, happy with such good views!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 11:00

Report from Elding: We sailed out under clear skies and calm seas with direction straight towards the open waters. It dint took long until we reached an area that had at least 15 minke whales. We stopped for the 3 of them the ones that were closer to our boat until some splashes got our attention and we went to investigate. To our surprise it were 7 white beaked dolphins that were really playful jumping and bowriding the waves of our boat feeling us with excitement for the say ahead. Later on we came across one humpback whale that was feeding in this area. We stayed with this individual for couple of fluke dives because non fur away from us we spotted 2 blows. Indeed were not one but two more humpback whales with few minke whales as well. we cruised with them for quite some time until one of them suddenly breached letting us speechless. After this amazing show we started our way back to Reykjavik port.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon, the sea was calm as we set sail from Faxaflói under the sun. Visibility was excellent, and it didn’t take long before we spotted a large animal — a humpback whale diving gracefully. There was another one in the same area, and this one we know quite well — Davy Jones was in the house! The area was lively, with many minke whales rapidly surfacing around us, likely all feeding, about 10 of them! There were 2 more blows in the distance. To top it off, we witnessed a 3rd humpback breaching and slapping its head — truly amazing! After stopping for a moment, we were surprised by the whale slapping its pectoral fin on the surface, and we could see a 4th one slapping the tail on the surface. As the time ran out we began our slow journey back to the harbour, thrilled by such incredible sightings and the sun shining on our faces.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 15:00

Report from Elding: The afternoon offered beautiful sunny weather and the sea lied more or less flat in Faxafloi bay. After sailing for a little bit we noticed a big spout coming up from something big. We investigated it further and it turned out to be a humpback whale. Another individual popped up close to the first one. They were a bit hard to follow, so we carried on to try to find a more social animal. A third humpback whale came up and this one came very close to us a few times which was very nice. Not too far away a few more spouts were detected and here we found three more of the same species. These three were curious on the boats and came to check us out. They displayed their gorgeous flukes over and over which made the passengers very happy. One even rolled on its back once to show off its massive pectorial fins. A gorgeous day out at sea, and seeing 6 humpback whales this late in the season is absolutely stunning!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 19:30

Report from Elding: tonight the sea was as calm as possible, and he sun was shining on our faces, starting to set very slowly. We went out and we spotted a few blows together, only to find out not 2 but 3 humpback whales in  the same spot, 2 swimming side by side! One of them started to tail slap, while the other showed the long pectoral fin several times, waving and then slapping it on the surface! Wow! The 3rd whale decided to breach, when we were watching these two, just to add to an already fantastic tour. Then, just like a movie, a pod of 15 white-beaked dolphins showed up and started interacting with the humpbacks, very playful! A part of the pod was separated, but still at the same area, and there was a lot of movement and little splashes for a little group, so we thought they would be mating! Then, we went to explore other areas and we saw 2 minke whales passing by very fast, but still allowing us to have a good look at them. We then came back to the harbour, but not only before passing by those 2 humpbacks again! Beautiful and active tour!
