Tour at 17:00

Still very good weather, when we headed out again this afternoon. After sailing for some time we spotted one Minke whale. It was a very nice whale. It surfaced many times and we spent quite some time with the whale until it took a deep dive and disappeared. We headed further out and spotted a big blow from a whale, but we could not find the whale. On our way back we visited the puffin island  Akurey but there were not so many Puffins at home.  Maybe better luck to morrow.

The wind picked up quite a bit over the last couple of hours but it was still nice and sunny. We headed straight out into Faxaflói to where our sister vessel Hafsúlan was as they saw a couple of Minkes but once we got there the Minkes were being once again elusive, we were patient but they just didn´t want to cooperate. It took us a long time before we saw our first Minke and it was only seen three times but not by many of the passengers. We then saw loads of diving Gannets so we headed towards them and finally we saw a Minke Whale surface in the distance we slowly travelled towards it and we had it surface three times less than 50 meters from our boat. Fantastic encounter. We saw it surfacing a couple more times after that but always getting further and further away. Thank You Minke for giving us a great encounter. We ended the tour by visiting Akurey but i think many of the Puffins were out at sea or in their burrows because there wasn´t many seen at the island.

On our way out in beautiful weather we spotted a small group of White-beaked dolphins. They were at least 3 animals, 2 adults and one very small calf. It was very difficult to get close to them so we followed them and observed from a distance for a while but then we left them in peace and headed further out. It took us a very long time to find the Minke whale today. They were very far out and surfaced only few times before disappearing.  But two of them came very close to our boat, so all our passengers could see the animals.

The sea state was mirror calm but less so further out where the land doesn´t shelter the sea. The sun was out and the visibility was beautiful. We started the tour by visiting Akurey and saw many Puffins which was really nice considering the lack of Puffins over the last couple of weeks. There were also many Skuas which were really annoying the Puffins by stealing their food. We then headed out into Faxaflói Bay to where the other whale watching vessels are. We saw one Minke Whale surface less than 100 meters from our boat four times then it wasn´t spotted again. We were hoping to see another Minke Whale but they all must of turned to stealth mode because we weren´t able to find them. We did come across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises though which were really nice to view, surfacing many times and less than 30 meters from us, enjoying surfing the waves. We saw many birds on this tour; diving Gannets, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Arctic Terns, Arctic Skuas, Guillemots, Gulls, Puffins, Manx Shearwaters and a couple of Storm Petrels.

Tour at 09:00

We headed out this morning and had beautiful weather. We first stopped at the Puffin Island Akurey. Many Puffins were flying above the island and some were sitting on the water surface in front. After this nice visit we headed out into the Faxaflói bay and started looking for whales. We spotted a Minke Whale and tried to approach it. We stayed with it for a while but when it went for a deeper dive and stayed under water for quite a long time when went on and looked for another one. We found some more Minke Whales in the same area and stayed with them. We also spotted some Harbour Porpoises. We stayed with a Minke Whale and it surfaced really close to the boat. Time was so soon up so we had to go back to the harbour. We spotted also many Guillemots and diving Gannets out at the bay. It was a really nice tour this morning out at Faxaflói bay
