Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We went out on a calm sea with little wind coming from the east and a wonderful sunrise painting the mountains in pink and orange. We went quite far looking for the cetaceans a spotted a blow. We got closer and found an area with very big flocks of birds active, clearly feeding and 2 humpback whales at a few hundred meters from each other, feeding as well. They were going for shallow dives most of the time then coming to the surface and quickly going back. We could see the animals from quite close sometimes surfacing 3 or 4 times in a row before going this time a fluke dive, showing the tail. We stayed mainly with the first one that we spotted and had a quick look to the second one before heading back to Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon was similar than this morning with a bit more light the sun being higher than this morning. We went in the direction of the same are than earlier to try to find the humpbacks. During our way we saw a few blows but it was very clear what was there. We got closer trying to understand and found 2 minke whales that were quickly surfacing here and there around the boat. One of the blows was really big so we were surprise to not find any humpback but maybe the animal dove and moved away. We continued and found a humpback whale again, the same than we saw a few days ago with dots on the tail. We stayed with this one even though we saw further out another blow from another humpback probably. We also spotted 5-6 white-beaked dolphins that came in our direction before changing there mind and going on there own. They stayed grouped close to each other and disappeared meanwhile our attention was coming back to the humpback that showed us its fluke a few times. We ran out of time and headed back to the harbour.
