CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: To start with today we wanted to try our luck around the islands where we have seen humpback and minke whales recently. We didn´t spot any cetaceans here but we did find an Atlantic puffin still hanging around! So we carried on and over the next 30 minutes we saw multiple pods of harbour porpoises. The first 3 pods had 1-2 individuals in but the 4th pod was very cool. It had 7-8 individuals all surfacing many times and swimming very fast right towards us. So we had a great look at them. Then after some more sailing we noticed a blow close to some other boats. It was a humpback! It was going for quite long dives of about 8 minutes. But once it came back up it would surface many times giving us all a really nice look at it. We even got to see it go for a fluke dive! Then we started to head home but our sightings were not over. We then came across a second humpack, Davy Jones II. They were also travelling quite fast but we still got to see them come up many times before having to carry on back home.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 11:00

Report from Elding : After quite a few days of cold and wind, we finally had easier conditions this morning with a sea almost flat like a mirror, no wind, no rain and the nicest temperature : perfect conditions to find the whales. We found our first one after sailing a while towards Akranes : a a humpback whale we already know well and named Davy Jones, very recognizable from the shape of its dorsal fin. It was rather chill, staying at the surface for a little while between gorgeous fluke dives. The whale came and stayed really close to the boat, barely a couple of meters. Having such a massive animal almost to the reach of an arm is such a mindblowing experience, and the conditions made it so easy to hear its powerful breath. We stayed within the same area watching the whale until it was time to start heading back to Reykjavik. On the way, we crossed the paths of two pods of harbour porpoises ! The sea being so flat, we could really see them traveling across the bay despite their small size. The first one was rather close from the whale, and the second pod was just near Reykjavik - perfect end to the tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out into calm seas with barely any wind blowing, while the clouds from the latest volcanic eruption created a gloomy atmosphere. After some time, we found found our first humpback whale. This animal was steadily travelling onward so we could stay alongside of it very easily and we saw it surface multiple times. Inbetween surfaces, we also got to see a pod of 3 harbour poroises swim by. After it was time to move on towards something else, we could see another humpback breach not once, but twice in the distance! A third humpback was in the same area as well and after we got to spend some time with this one, being treated to some incredibly close surfaces, it was time for us to head back home, but not before we got to see another harbour porpoise passing by.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 15:00

Report from Elding: We sailed out in a beautiful and calm sea with very low swell. After a while we saw a blow and decided to approach carefully. It was a humpback whale that seemed very calm. We tried to follow it for a bit and it fluked a few times. In total we saw 3 humpback whales (all very calm), 1 minke whale (a bit elusive) and about 4 harbour porpoises (a bit elusive as whale).

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: On our way out this evening we got lucky to spot a harbour porpoise quite early. But then it took quite a bit of sailing to find anything else. We first went to where they had seen whales on the 1500 tour but nothing was around anymore. So we then headed towards Akranes where we had seen whales earlier too. Around here was where we got very lucky. We first spotted a very faint blow and as we got closer we realised it was a humpback whale. It was very likely feeding as it never stayed at the surface too long but we did get to see many fluke dives. In the distance we also spotted a second humpback. Then before we knew it the 2 humpbacks were side by side. They kept surfacing together before diving. This was really cool for all to see. We then watched this for a bit before heading back home very happy.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 19:00

Report from Elding: The evening was just stunning, with the sun setting in a blaze of colors over calm seas. There wasn’t much wind, and the gentle swell made for a smooth ride. After about an hour of sailing, we finally spotted a humpback whale. It was doing long dives, so we only caught a couple of glimpses before it disappeared into the deep. We kept searching, hoping to find something more as the sky turned shades of pink and orange, but the ocean had other plans. Despite the quiet sightings, the beauty of the evening was undeniable. We decided to offer complimentary tickets so everyone could come back and try again, hopefully catching more of the magic next time.
