Whale Diary

It was cold but the sea was smooth. Only 15 minutes into the morning tour we had already spotted 2 humpback whales, before seeing a few grey seals and about a 2 pods of 10 harbour porpoises. In the afternoon we again encountered our resident humpback whales, around 15-20 harbour porpoises and a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins (including one calf)!

It was a cold an windy, but beautiful morning as we went out. We spotted 2 humpback whales swimming close and parallel to the boat, giving us a good impression of their massive size. In the afternoon we found our favourite pair of humpback whales again. They were surrounded by many seabirds and at least 6 grey seals feasting on the same buffet. 

On this cold and beautiful Valentine's Day, we sailed out when the sun was rising behind the mountains. The wind was strong, but we put on our thermal overalls and soon encountered 6 grey seals and 2 humpback whales feeding together! In the afternoon we again found the 2 humpback whales, 10 harbour porpoises and at least 5 grey seals swimming with them.

It didn't take long until we spotted 2 humpback whales and they were not alone - there were at least 15 grey and harbour seals around us, super curious, swimming and probably feeding too. Suddenly, the whales started to breach! In the afternoon we again saw the 2 humpback whales, along with grey and harbour seals and even 2 pods of harbour porpoises!

We started our morning with a cold breeze but sunny skies! As we sailed into the bay we soon came across our resident humpback whales, swimming gently and occasionally showing their fluke in between short dives. In the afternoon we again found our 2 humpback whales, feeding between the Viðey islands amongst birds and at least 2 harbour seals and 3 grey seals!

It was a cold morning with flat seas and a beautiful sunrise. Soon we found our 2 humpback whales, Banana and Split, who treated us to 3 peduncle throws! As we approached the area, we also saw 4 grey seals. In the afternoon, we sailed around the islands and saw lots of grey seals before we found our 2 humpback whales again! We also encountered a rare common dolphin!

Not long after leaving the harbour this morning, 2 humpback whales appeared, lifting their flukes above the surface. After some time, we moved on and were lucky to spot a single common dolphin. In the afternoon we saw some seals resting on rocks and again found the humpback whales from before, moving gently and showing their fluke multiple times!

This morning, the weather was nice and the sea was flat. We found 2 humpback whales early on and lots of seals were hanging out on the rocks nearby. In the afternoon, we again found the 2 humpback whales nearby, Banana and its friend! Among them were plenty of sea birds and at least 10 grey seals feeding at the same time! Such a great day at sea!

The sea was flat this morning as we admired the orange sunrise behind the mountains. Then, we spotted our 2 familiar humpback whales, as we had fun being surrounded by at least 5 grey seals. In the afternoon it didn't take long until we spotted a lone humpback whale, before finding its friend a little later. We also saw about 5-10 harbour- and grey seals.

This morning, we had beautiful calm seas. After passing Viðey, we saw 2 blows in the distance, and as we got closer we saw it was the same 2 humpback whales we have been seeing for a while now. They were logging right next to Viðey island On our way home we saw 2 grey seals. In the afternoon we also encountered the 2 humpback whales from before.

We went out with flat seas and no wind this morning. Just 15 minutes in the tour, we found 2 humpback whales, and one of them did a spy hop and a breach out of nowhere. We also saw around 15 harbour porpoises! In the afternoon we quickly found the same 2 humpback whales, as well as 6-8 harbour seals, and a lone common dolphin from the previous days!

We sailed out this morning towards a beautiful sunrise and flat seas. We saw our familiar 2 humpback whales, lunging multiple times and even playfully rolling. In the afternoon, we again found our 2 resident humpback whales, along with grey seals and the first minke whale of the year! We were also surprised to see a common dolphin right outside the harbour!

Not too long into the morning tour, we had already found a couple of humpback whales feeding amongst a couple of grey seals. In the afternoon, we again saw the same pair of humpback whales, still actively lunge feeding, as well as the pair of grey seals from before. Our deckhand also caught a glimpse of a common dolphin, but it didn't reappear for the rest of us.

We went out in the morning and it didn't take long before we saw 2 humpback whales! They were swimming around Viðey island and even lunge feeding. In the afternoon we again found the same 2 humpback whales as before. After spending some time with them we moved on and were soon being monitored by about 7 grey seals sunbathing on the rocks.

This morning we sailed out with some breeze, but calm seas and an orange sunrise poking through. We rather quickly ran into 2 humpback whales, close to Viðey island. We even saw one of them playfully roll on their side a couple times! In the afternoon we again found the 2 humpback whales from this morning, still feeding and showing us their flukes as they dove.

It was the first morning tour of the year and we had a beautiful sunrise on one side, and a full moon setting on the other. We soon came upon our favourite pair of humpback whales - we even managed to see tail slaps! In the afternoon, we found the same pair of humpback whales from this morning, still feeding, even lunge feeding a few times and a big peduncle throw!

It was a beautiful sunny day, and the sea was flat. We first spotted 2 big blows from humpback whales swimming side-by-side. They were actively feeding, spending just a couple of minutes under the surface and surfacing very unpredictably. We also found about 4 grey seals and the lone common dolphin from the previous day! A very rare sighting for our area!

What a great day! The weather was as good as it can be and the sea was flat as a duckpond. Just a few minutes after we left the harbour we spotted our first animal that turned out to be a rare (in our area) common dolphin! We went on and found our two humpback whales, feeding. As we got closer, we also saw a grey seal and a harbour seal peeking out of the water!

As we sailed out of the harbour, a couple of blows were seen in the distance; upon further inspection, we saw it was 2 humpback whales going up and down in the water column. It was Banana and its buddy once again. We approached them carefully, and drifted alongside them. There were also lots of birds around, including northern gannets and juvenile red-throated loons!

We set out with strong winds, but quite good sea conditions nonetheless. We searched around a bit, and soon enough, we had found Banana and their friend - our 2 familiar humpback whales. They were cruising around, and so we cruised along with them. Eventually we were rewarded with an incredible peduncle throw, which was the perfect end to our tour today!
